Palace Inn
It's been a while since I visited Mr. Patel's place on Hillcroft just north of 59, so this may or may not be news, but I figured I'd share. Last week I visited the place for the first time in over six months, and the conversation I had with the young manager as I was checking in was... weird.
First he asked me if I've been there before. I immediately started laughing: a man from India is asking me a question that I usually hear from a Korean woman. And without thinking I said "Yes, but it's been a while", and started laughing even harder. Just when I was half expecting that he'd ask who I saw last time I visited, he swept my ID, looked up on his computer and said: "ah, you've been here in 2009". What, they keep the records??? WTF????. Then, he said "we changed our policy, we now ask both guests to show their IDs". You what? He repeated himself, and I walked back to my car to rely the news to my soon-to-be Palace Inn roomate.
Of course she didn't have an ID on her, but instead of panicking I suggested we try our luck and have her tell Mr Patel some BS excuse for not having an ID and giving him a made up name. It worked: he typed up whatever porn star name she gave him, and we got the keys for one hour. Btw, it's $25 per hour now... I remember when it was $25 for two hours and $20 for one.
Anyway, I wanted to ask the audince: for how long has this been going on? Since when both guests need to give IDs in ANY hotel, in this city, in this state, in this country??? Is this just the PI on Hillcroft, or did the po-po made all hourly motels start doing the same?

On the double ID's, I think just that PI, hon. They all keep the "normal" transactions on computer, but evidently there is no "rent by the hour" legally in Houston anymore so any such stay ought to be paid in cash with no records kept. I stopped visiting the Palace Inn chain a couple years ago and now use one little private motel for my incall den of iniquity just outside the city limits. However, other people I know have recently used Houston area motels and haven't had such an issue. You might reconsider that PI as a rendezvous point. Maye LE is watching it.

Well I do know any place that rents for 2 hours (was 1 hour) is required to have you fill out a small form, and take your ID, regardless if you are paying cash or not. Apparently they did make some serious changes to these P.I. type places. Someone told me when this all went to court a long while back I guess the Teamsters got involved. Truck divers needing their cheap one hour prices for quick pull over stop sleeping or something? I dunno..
But it is scary Obiwan that you have someone that has a record of how far back and how often you have been going to that particular place. Find somewhere else.. that is really all anyone can suggest.

Nope. Paid by CC, no mandatory cash transaction mentioned at all by Mr. Patel.

Of course they watch the place, I am perfectly aware of it. However, on this particular occasion I got all the "gotchas" covered: it wasn't a street walker, and it wasn't a gal from BP, craigslist or eros either. It was a single car and I knew her real name. For all they know we were just two horny strangers that met at some bar.

Oh, heck, I'd NEVER pay for play or a place to stay for play with a CC. Leaves too easy a trail to track. Cash conveniently clouds memories. However, I guess it doesn't much matter if you don't have a private life, or wife, to protect.
Most motel clerks will adhere to the law and take ID when you check in, absolutely required with a CC, but I've never heard of ANYPLACE taking ID for a second guest. Sounds suspicious to me. As for being aware of spying LE, well....two horny strangers who met at a bar aren't going to have an envelope of cash laying around, assuming you used an envelope, or an incriminating wad. Would make me nervous.
Just getting a bad vibe, here. I'd change locales. I'm not paranoid; I know they're out to get me.

I would NEVER give the name of my guest at a no-tel; that is crazy.

Nope, no envelope, two crisp bills. I always have those in my wallet "just in case". Besides, why do you think po-po would search either of us if we were questioned afterwards? On what grounds?
I am not worried about CC trail and such not necessarily because, as you put it, "I have no life to protect", but because I don't conduct my business out of PI every day, few times a day. I already mentioned that my last visit to that PI was in 2009. There's no regularity in my visits to PI, and gals I go to with are not "on the radar" as street walkers, BP, craigslist or eros enteratiners.

Even if you pay for the room with cash, there is still a record of the transaction because they scan your DL. Apparently they keep the records for quite awhile, too.

they've been doing the double ID thing for a while, especially when they think you've picked up a SW from around the area. And I know for a fact the two right there at that 59/ Harwin corridor let LE use their rooms for stings. Be careful.
