Excuse me while I politely tell you to go fuck yourself.

How can you replace a creature that has loved you unconditionally for years, who was there and loyal when other people turned their backs on you, hurt you, made fun of you, stole from you, who comforted you in your most despairing hour, who made you smile when you were at the end of your rope, who stayed glued to your side when you were sick, who was ALWAYS happy to see you, didn't ever argue with you or blame you for anything, was happy with whatever time you gave it and made no complaint, and who never judged your choices?

Please do not comment in this thread again if you have any respect or compassion for me as a human being at all.

Update:
Sweet Pea is still hanging in there. Today was supposed to be "Dead Dog Walking" but I tried some holistic medicine last night, and today she's been up drinking water, going potty, looking more alert, and I actually got her to eat several bites of chicken a little bit ago, the first food she's had in days. She's sleeping again, 95% of what her life is now. When she left her last puddle, it had a yellow tinge to it instead of just clear fluid, so that indicates some of the toxins are getting out. I've been consulting with an online vet specialist as well as my clinic, and the online doctor has been more encouraging than the local guy, who just thinks I should put her down. I have someone on the way to pick up a subcutaneous fluid set-up to administer at home, and I have a relative who's an RLAT, registered lab animal tech, who will teach me how to do this to keep her hydrated and to help flush those poisons out. I'll be giving her Pedialyte to keep her electrolytes up, and Metacam for any discomfort.

I know I'm just postponing the inevitable, as there is no cure, but I'm holding off sending her to doggy heaven while she's still mobile, eating, and drinking. This rally may just last the weekend. Honestly, I'm hoping she passes quietly in her sleep. In the meantime, as long as she isn't in pain, I will give her every moment I can with me and her 5 furry buddies.

Whoever thinks dogs are dumb IS the dumbo. My guys know what's going on and are all staying close to Pea, sleeping in the same pile, something they don't normally do, and they keep walking back and forth from her to me, like they expect me to do more to make her get up and start playing with them again.

I'd give up my life of harlotry if God would accept the deal and give her (and all my babies) a few more healthy years, but I think I sold my soul to the Devil a long time ago, dammit.

Thank you for your sympathy and kind thoughts, those of you who understand.

I don't think you sold your soul to the devil. Your acts of love and compassion are proof of that. Heaven awaits you when it's your time because your soul is full of love. I feel that people who go to hell are evil people, and I don't think you fit into that category.

I hope you took a couple of minutes to view the youtubes I posted in a prior post.

Good luck Fancy with your little Sweet Pea.

I would suggest that if she takes another downhill turn you really consider putting her down. My SO and I made the mistake of not putting down our first cat who was in renal failure. Watching that poor cat die in pain was a horrible experience that we have never done again. After that we have gone through 6 pets, and we have not let any of them suffer.

OOB, are you in competition with Wakeup to be the largest asshole on this board?

Actually his post was OK until the final line.

About OOB, he's probably a pretty good fellow, anybody who has a line in the avatar area of Sucker of Satan's cock and his silly little sig. line shows that (at least on this site) he may have some issues.

So I'm an asshole because I can't empathize?
I was going to comply with fancy's wishes until y'all chimed in.
I'm going to run it down.
Pet dies, go to the store and but a new one.
Person dies, it's noticed and based on circumstance there are inquiries.
No I'm not in competition with anyone.

Your level of compassion noted.

Instead of cluttering up Fancy's thread about the possible loss of her best friend, why not start a new thread and just up and tell everybody what an asshole the Dear John and Why A Duck? are.

Not that we care.......................... ......

No, I really don't think you are an asshole because you can't empathize. I totally get that some people don't have the capacity to love an animal like some of us do. However, you are an asshole for posting the above. It's obvious you wanted to either hurt Fancy for absolutely no reason whatsoever, or demonstrate what a callous asshole you truly are. You could have kept your feeling to yourself. So yeah, just to confirm your question, you are indeed an asshole. I’m just wondering, what did you get out of illustrating what an asshole you can truly be?

Well I tied in the subject of this thread with a family member going through the same thing originally if y'all will recall.
I was merely stating I don't know how so much feeling could be put into a lesser life form.
But I don't care if you think I'm an asshole.
Maybe I am.

My parents both have strong farming backgrounds. And until they had children, they always thought of animals along more the lines of farmers do as opposed to "pets".

Now, and since I was a child, they've kept three cats and one dog forever until they also had to be put to sleep.

I have never seen my father react so to the last cat. My mother, and she's elderly, cried for weeks ... and sometimes still does for the last cat. As she's aging, she speaks about all of her animals past and present. Which I find just wonderful.

I believe that as people get older and the children are grown and gone, that the relationships that they have with their animals take on a whole different level of meaning. My parents felt the passion of caring and loving their animals while I was a child, though.

I'm shocked that others don't have that same level of compassion. And I guess that I don't see my dog, cats and bird as "lower creatures". But in way, I can understand that somewhat jaded view about animals.

What I CANNOT understand is how someone could say that a creature can be replaced so easily. It really cannot.

And as I won't go as far as to say some of the comments others have above, I wish that you would just empathize somewhat to what Fancy, and others, have been through and are going through.

It's an absolute hell. It REALLY is.

When I went to do the same with my last dog, she was so sick that I don't really think that she knew what was going on. My father and friend went with me and stayed in the waiting room. I had Tango wrapped in a blanket from home and cradled her while my vet gave her the shot.

You could feel a whoosh go through the room as her spirit fled. I really did feel that. Just heartbreaking.

Best of luck to you, Fancy. You'll know when it's time.

Sincerely,
Elisabeth

Fancyinheels

At the vet's
Get a cushion or pillow or blanket or something that your doggie in familiar with, place your doggie on that [smell of a familiar surrounding] and pet the dog.

A cat came around, was real friendly and was going to adopt it, gave it shots and one more night then it would be moved in [had a cat already]

Except some speeding jerk ran the cat over- had to bring it to the vet of course

later, due to posters in the neighborhood we found the original owners and told them what happened and exchanged pictures.

Fancy, I'm sure he knows how much you love and care for him and that I'm sure is the biggest comfort that he has, medicine is no match for the love and care that someone shows to another being. You and yours are in my prayers and thoughts....

Fancy could get another 100 pups, but no pup will ever replace Sweat Pea.

Who are you kidding? You’re an intelligent guy. I don’t think for a moment that you can’t at least rationalize how many people are very attached to their pets? You know, it’s one thing to debate politics or sports on this site, but to go after someone grieving, whether you think it has merit or not? What were you trying to accomplish other than bringing negative attention to yourself? Well played man, well played.
