Board discipline.

Someone asked a question about board discipline and how to research the subject.

The short answer is that members won’t find a reason given for the discipline or the duration of the discipline of another member here.

When the mods "discipline" a member, they do so in private. On the "P" some of the mods would post a note directed at the member to "check you PM". That was seen as public humiliation and is discouraged here.

On ECCIE, if a person is reprimanded/disciplined, it is done so quietly and privately. The reprimand is not mentioned in public, nor the reason for it. Outside of a "banning" you will not know what has happened. (the only reason you know then, is that the member’s title is changed to “BANNED”). In the event of "banning", some bans are temporary, some are permanent. There is no indication publically of the length of a ban.

As to board discipline, the only thing a member can be disciplined for is a board violation, on the board. The board will NOT discipline a member for activities outside of what happens here. Makes sense if you think about it.

For the most part, members here follow the rules a great majority of the time.

Text and board posts, while quite common, are not the best means of communication. We lose the paraverbals and non-verbals found in personal communication and that can lead to someone interpreting the message in a different manner than intended.

At times, tempers or feelings flare. Sometimes this settles itself, sometimes it needs a gentle reminder of the board “guidelines”. Sometimes the reminder comes from other members, sometimes from the mods.

When gentle reminders don’t work or the violation is clearly blatant and severe, more “severe” actions are taken by the moderators.

Outside of the moderators, admins and owners, no one can see another member’s reprimands, violations, warnings or points. (For this reason, it is NOT safe to assume that because hobbyist XX posted such and such that is it therefore OK or “safe” for you to do so.

A post inquiring “what happened” will not get a response from a moderator. You may get an educated guess from a member, but that is best any of us can offer. Former mods do not have “secret” access to info not available to the general membership. All any of us can offer are one’s insights based upon their experiences. There are many members here with great experience.

I feel fortunate that the Killeen/Waco/BCS corner is so relatively free of drama, is open and welcoming and in general very helpful to one another. We have a very happy corner of the ECCIE world.

In all fairness, he was not banned the second time, he simply took the encouragement of members here to go away.... (I did ban him the first time and I think he blamed the other mod at the time).

Thanks, Sarge. We have our share of minor drama here, but I think we all keep it civil mostathatime. Speaks to the quality of providers, hobbyists, and mods in this area.

Am I the only one that thanks this is crazy?? How does Old Sarge get banned? From what I know HE ABSOLUTELY DID NOTHING WRONG. I AM HOWEVER RELIEVED TO SEE THE PERSON UNQUESTIONABLY WRONG HAS FINALLY BEEN WRITEFULLY AND HOPEFULLY PERMANENTLY BANNED HAS BEEN. I say we position to have Old Sarge status promptly reinstated. Any one with me? Organ I get banned for a thread of that nature? Discussed with this whole thing.
