WHEN TRAVELING PROVIDERS CANCEL?
So I just called the punt team onto the field. . .
There was a hot lady that decided to give my region a try as she was passing by on her tour and she put an ad up--not just a trip-teaser, but an ad.
I did my research and contacted her. Gave her my screening info and she confirmed all was well and we nailed down a general day, time, and location.
The weekend comes and goes, and there was no further contact from her. I send a quick PM (actually two over the weekend). . .no response, even though she did log in and even made a few posts. I had already rearranged the work schedule, crafted my alibi for being gone and in that part of town, went to the bank for the funds, gathered the stuff for my BFE outcall road-kit including her favorite refreshments. . .all the usual preparations if you get my drift--to each their own depending on their personal session preferences.
Still no contact. . .still no cancellation notice posted on the board.
Time passes, and I start thinking of plan B. I mean, I have everything ready and don't want to waste the opportunity. I want to be a considerate hobbyist, so before booking with another gal, I reach out to her one last time on the phone and she responds:
"Oh yeah. . .sorry. . .I decided to cancel the trip--not enough advance bookings."
I get this. It is part of the business. Providers need to cancel when it would not only make them less profit on a given trip, it might cost them more than they would make off of a handful of sessions. No argument there. This is not a NSNC situation--just a disapointing and inconvenient one. I am sure I will find a local provider to take care of me, but probably not in time to take advantage of all this opportunity and preparation.
I am not trying to kick a wasp nest here. I just thought it might be worth throwing the topic up to be discussed a bit. What is fair to expect from a provider that has to cancel?
If you are a provider, how do you handle letting gents know when you need to cancel? What type of time frame do you use? What is considered polite and considerate?
If you are a hobbyist, what type of notification would you expect? How much notice before a penciled-in session gets canceled would you like to be given? How do you handle these situations?

I tend not to book travelers since they generally will not do outcalls.

Interesting. . .
So when you hobby in your own backyard you still get a hotel room, even though they may have one to live in and do incalls while they are visiting?
I am not saying anything is wrong with that--just curious as to the rationale--maybe something I forgot to consider?

I voted for the first choice. The second choice may not be possible depending on the circumstances of her cancellation.
The earlier I can receive notification that a visiting provider has decided to cancel her trip to my area the better. However, as you have experienced, it does not always work out that way. The lack of contact and responses to your attempts at contact were your first clues that she was not coming. Like a NCNS, this sort of thing comes with the territory. I do not make elaborate preparations until I am almost certain the meeting will take place and even then I know that it may not happen.
Nothing is certain. Except, of course, death and taxes.

You did everything right. I am not the best at updating my calendar so I've had a couple of close calls. One Saturday, my calendar was blank so I thought I had the day off. I made chili, went for a run, spring cleaned my in-call and was grungy and salty from work and sweat. All of the sudden, I get a phone call from a hobbyist five or ten minutes 'till 1pm. I told him that I didn't have anything on my calendar and that I was sweaty and wearing a baseball cap and that we could meet if he didn't mind waiting while I took a shower. I hadn't gotten around to doing laundry(towels) yet. So when it was his turn to take a shower, all I had was a hand towel. He took it like a champ and we had a great session. Even broke a wine glass thrashing around.
Recently, I had to cancel twice at the last minute, the first one was due to food poison and second one, I think, was heat exhaustion. Luckily, they both gave me a chance to make it up to them.
My suggestion: Send a confirmation e-mail one or two days before.

Thanks, anova. You are a consummate professional. . . and pretty damn hot too!
Sorry if that was too forward. . .I am just horny and this money is burning a hole in my pocket.
. . .and yes that is a shameless plug sent out for any lady in my area (or within driving range) that wants to take advantage of my misfortune and amped libido.

At the moment. . .Ohio.
Of course, with my travel schedule picking up in the next few months, maybe I should just bank it and save it for other cities.

I'm sorry this happened to you. I can empathize Sometimes to the point of sitting outside of a hotel only to reach her and have her say, "I knew I forgot something? I'm back in Kansas City ."
In this business I think a lot of us (guys & girls) excuse a lot of things by talking about how "unique" this business is. I'll call bullshit! I know this is not the same as ordering a value meal at McDonalds...but there is something to be said for common decency and manners...whether it is business or not. As soon as you know you will not be able to make an appointment, whether is as an escort for a client, the dentist, your hairstylist or just Sunday Dinner at your Mom's house, you have an obligation to promptly notify the other party.
You (as the client) should never be in the position where you have to proactively follow-up to see if there will indeed be an appointment.
That said, as it relates to your poll question, I don't think she has a duty to publically notify the world of her change in plans or retract an ad. Simply, she needs to notify anyone she booked and not book anyone else.

I never hobby at home. Only when I travel...and I travel a lot. 150 - 300 nights a year. I insist on outcalls for a number of reasons, but mostly because I am unfamiliar with the territory and don't want to take chances.

I absolutely hate where we've gotten in society with a lack of manners. Nobody responds to email. I'd like to know if you read my mail...just an "ok" is sufficient. I'd like for you to announce your name when you answer the phone. No common courtesy anymore. Rats!!!

Ahhh. . .that makes perfect sense. I do the same, and in fact prefer hobbying while on the road. Of course, if she is really hot and i am really horny. . .oh yeah--that's how I got my self in this predicament in the first place.
