IMO this is a bad idea.

Anytime you have a unit that was installed improperly to begin with, you up the chances of damaging the unit. Improper ("too big") condensing units are removed after installation for a reason... refrigeration leaks are possible, wiring and contactors can be faulty, if installed and run with smaller evaporator, you run risk of a flooded compressor.... (and replacing a compressor is more expensive than replacing the condensing unit itself)
Unfortunately, there is no way to verify that this unit is in good working condition without hiring a licensed hvac tech to hook it up and run a diagnostics analysis on it. Also, an invoice showing date of install does not mean the unit is one year old. (There is a way to decipher when a condensing unit was manufactured by the serial number)

Good luck....

I recommend scrapping the copper and calling it a day!

The ac unit was PROPERLY installed but too large for the home.

The mistake was using a friend instead of John Moore like I did to
CORRECT the problem.

The home now only has a 2ton unit what it needed before.
And yes it comes along with the attic unit as well.

I am not trying to make a profit or even recover the lost. Just trying to
get it out of my garage.

I was giving to my in law but the unit is too large for her home as well.

OP.. I meant not any harrasment or indicating that you are doing something shady...just stating potential problems that could arise from being installed improperly. I understand that you believe it was properly done, but the fact if the matter is... if the unit was too big for the house then the likelihood of the wiring being compatabible to each other is slim, this can potentially damage any contactor switches and wiring within the compressor and blow motor. If the condensing unit is not matched properly (size compatible ) with your inside unit (evaporator coils) then there is a possibility of what some techs call flood backs to the compressor. So what I mean by improper installation is all of this^^^

My suggestion to you is this... instead of giving it away, scrap it... there is money to be made!! Why do you think so many criminals are stripping units like the one DG posted above (which is a Trane Package unit btw)...copper coils bring big bucks at a junkyard.

Honey you have a very good point. I might just do that if I can not sell it.
The reason why I had to buy that one in the first place is because someone
uninstalled (stole) the original without my permission..lol.. (insulation, wiring, EVERYTHING). Professionals the police say.

Damarco...if you can't sell it outright ....you might consider donating it to a charity(Habitat for Humanity) and take the tax deduction. A lot less hassle than draining the freon, tearing it apart and scrapping it.. The charity might end up scrapping it , but at least you won't have to.

find a a/c tech...he will take it off your hands right away. Freon r-22 is about $30/lb., fan motor can be sold at wholesale about $50 so on and so on. you will make more money this way than scrapping it

R-22 is much more in demand because it can't be manufactured anymore, so it has to be recycled for all those units that still use it...
