Others on the cusp include I Wanna Hold Your Hand by The Beatles (that opening still gives me chills), Black Dog by Led Zeppelin (the overmodulated guitar running straight through the sound board, no amp or speaker, is a truly unique sound), American Woman by The Guess Who (Burton Cummings great vocals and Randy Bachman's saturated lead guitar lines), Would by Alice In Chains (as dark as it gets), and several others.

The best era for rock n roll was from about the mid 60's to the mid 70's. Alas, disco killed music and it still hasn't recovered

My parents generation gave us Freebird, Knights in White Satin, A Whiter Shade of Pale, Kashmir, Midnight Rider......and my generation, the 80's produced some real symphonic masterpieces such as Wake Me Up (Before you Go Go), How Will I know (if he really loves me), I'm So Excited, and a long list of bubble gum pop from one hit wonders.
