Very sad day - 4 fire fighters dead

4 fire fighters died .. giving their life for a crappy ass motel. That place should have been torn down years ago, I hope it is never rebuilt. How many public servents have lost their life or been hurt there over the years? Too many.

I recently had the honor of meeting a gentlemen who's a local firefighter ...and he still had these scars from collapsing in a building years ago ....I asked him how did he go back to a job like that, didn't he feel fear ....and he said he had to continue to do his job

There should be a cost-benefit rule for saving a shitty no-tel like this, although people must have been in there. I bet these guys never thought they would lose their lives in this way, but I am very thankful for what they do. Very sad story.

Very sad day for all of us as a department. I was working and havent gotten any sleep yet. We will all miss our brothers and sister. Please pray for them and their families.

I was just down the road at Fondren and 59 during this time. First some police cars and a fire truck went by. Then another fire truck. Then a few minutes later, a lot of police cars and 3 more fire trucks.
Everyone at the business I was at said this is not some traffic accident. Then shortly after, it was learned this was 5 alarm fire.

and we have many volunteer FD's down here ... they are well trained and good.

Those who died in the explosion/fire recently in central texas were all volunteers.

They do it because they love it. One has to.

I could see that fire from the freeway at lunch. I cannot imagine going into something like that.

RIP to those (4) fireman and I appreciate them greatly.

I remember that police officer being killed there in 1999. I hope they take it down.

I have been out of pocket. I have been trying to get back in Houston!!
My friends, its a very sad day for HFD, Houston and myself. I knew these members well, I would have been at this scene but was on vacation.
It is a tragedy, just unbelievable at this time to me.
The Public Memorial Service for all 4 will be Wednesday.

I drove by there on Sunday, they had set up trailers and were elbow deep into investigating it.. they had the freeway exit and entrance blocked and were diverting traffic around the main entrance.

the way that place went up and as fast as it did.. something does not feel "right"
