Default Where to get good steak and seafood

Anyone have any suggestions about their favorite places to chow down on steak or seafood? What about good Cajun food, the kind that tastes homemade? How about alligator?

Tell me what you know.

For steak, I would recommend Austin Land and Cattle on Lamar a few blocks north of 6th. If you're going north it's on the right in a little shopping center.

Haven't found a great place for seafood with the exception of Uchi if you like Sushi and you don't mind spending some money. Other sushi options are Korea House up on Anderson or Yanagi down south near William Cannon and 35

If you're after steak instead of atmosphere, it's hard to beat Texas Road House.

Ahh, just remembered Quality Seafood near the intersection of Airport and 290. I've been there for lunch and was impressed by the quality of their seafood. Nothing like living near a cold water port though.

Agree with GneissGuy about Texas Roadhouse. I actually prefer the atmosphere at Roadhouse, but that's cause I prefer extremely casual. In the end though, the quality of the food and preparation really is better at Austin Land and Cattle. It is pricier though. Plates at Austin Land and Cattle are 20+. Plates at Texas Roadhouse are much more reasonable.

For what you originally posted though, this is probably the best option around here.

Eddie V's is fabulous for steaks & seafood, but it is pricey. Quality Seafood on Airport is great for seafood and much easier on the wallet.

Default Cajun food / steaks

For cajun food go to Evangeline Cafe on Brodie Lane in South Austin. It is close to Slaughter and Brodie. For a good steak go to Trulucks or Austin Land & Cattle.

Fleming's in the domain has great steaks. Wish they had a bit more thought into acoustics, it tends to be noisy for the $$$

Ditto Evangeline's on Brodie for Cajun flavor. I was there this week and they were featuring alligator prepared a couple of ways. Cypress Grill on W.Wlm Cannon is good too. Both are small, casual and privately owned.

If you are in Northwest Austin or Round Rock, check out Gumbo's for Louisiana style and cajun style . http://gumbosaustin.com

One of my favorites on 6th street, funky Old Austin Style steakhouse, Hoffbrau Steaks, great prices, great steaks, great atmosphere. Been around since the 1930's I think. http://originalhoffbrausteaks.com

The only complaint I have about these Food Threads is, dammit, now I am HUNGRY!lol

2nd's on Eddie V's and TruLucks. Also Steiner Ranch SteakHouse has a pretty diverse menu with steaks and seafood choices such ad salmon on the plank and chilean sea-bass.
