1988 is a long time ago: Go Irish!
Look out Tide, because if the Irish run the table, and they very well might, it'll be Notre Dame vs Alabama for the national championship.
-
And oh, by the way, here's a tombstone I'd like to see:
"Here Lies Paul 'Bear' Bryant...he never beat Notre Dame."
Look it up. Oh and four against the Irish.
-
Brian Kelly has made Notre Dame relevant again, and this time it won't be a one year wonder like in Charlie Weis' second year. Kelly has built winners before, at North Dakota State, Western Michigan, and Cincinnati. He's in South Bend to stay, and Notre Dame will take its rightful place among college football's elite once more.
-
And now, the single most recognized fight song IN THE WORLD. (Michigan, Hail to the Victors, is second among colleges, and Bear Down, Chicago Bears is second overall).
-
Cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame
Wake up the echoes cheering her name
Hear the voices from on high
Shake down the thunder from the sky
What though the foe be mighty or small
Old Notre Dame will win over all
As her loyal sons go marching
Onward to victory

....and what has happened the last 10x Notre Dame has played an SEC team? they've had it handed to em that's what!! ND better hope every SEC team loses at least twice cause they don't want no part of that conference in the National Championship!! I don't think ND could even handle South Carolina and they're the SEC's 4th or 5th best team

That's what I want! Smack talk! Good old fashioned in your face sports talk.

Notre Dame will have trouble with Alabama and would probably have trouble with LSU. I think they beat everyone else on a neutral field.

Anyone who can put a whuppin' on Oklahoma could hang with either Fla or Ga; today was a classic letdown game that lesser teams would have lost. Championship caliber teams win games like these.

Sorry, but ND's offense would be smothered by Bama. Teams with a lot weaker defenses than Alabama have stopped ND (e.g. Pitt yestereday). I want to see Oregon go up against the Tide. If Bama can stop Oregon's offense they deserve to be #1.
Of course, any game would be more exciting than Alabama-LSU in the BCS championship game last year.

If it happens, I would host an open party to watch the game. Not sure if anyone would show up, but hell, free beer and pizza might get a couple folks to drop by.

Well, now, it just might be ND and somebody else in the BCS championship game, like Kansas State or Oregon.
Fuck Nick Saban!

I couldn't agree more. Growing up in the NE, I hated Alabama and UT. Probably because they won all the time.
Things will have to break just right for ND to make the championship game but it certainly could happen.

Because ND doesn't play in a conference and doesn't have to worry about a conference championship, I think they have an advantage. They play Wake Forest and then at Southern Cal, which is going to be tough, but because Southern Cal has their annual grudge match with UCLA the week before, I give the Irish the edge.

Norte Dame? Meh. I've never been a fan any more than I have been for BYU. Become the token program for an entire religion, you'll have a hell of a fan base. We Protestants have simply spread ourselves too thin. Shit, we've got Baylor, TCU, and SMU in Texas alone. But I digress.
Norte Dame, is relevant again. At least for the moment. They play, statistically, the most difficult schedule of any remaining unbeaten team. If they win out against Wake Forest (duh), and a three loss USC, they certainly deserve to be in the BCS championship. With no conference championship to deal with? Yes, things are looking good for the Irish.
So, who do they play? I'm really under impressed with the SEC this year. Or, perhaps I'm just just overly impressed with the Texas Agricultue and Mechanical College. As someone who has followed Tivy Football, I fucking told Mack four years ago to overlook Johnny's wanna be gangsta personality and offer the boy. I'm pretty sure that Mr. football made up for that ONE arrest last year by beating the fucking number one team in the nation Mack! But again, I digress.
Origon looks pretty damn good. they souldn't loose to Cal or Stanford, but will have to deal with a Pac 10 championship game. I'd take them over ND minus 10 today. K-State? Tell me when they last recruited a top 100 high school recruit in Manhatten. DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER! Bill Snyder is easily the best coach in the nation. Saban, Miles, Kelly, Stoops? Those guys have it easy. Consider how much Bill has done with so little. Haven't heard much about Kansas State in a while? It's because that poor old bitch tried to retire and enjoy some well earned chill time. His former team became irrelevant, so at 72, the poor bastard decided he had to go back to work. Tomorrow, he will probably have the number one team in the nation. He's got dangerous trap games at Baylor and Texas, but survive those and I think the old man deserves a shot against the Catholics... I mean Irish. I take K- State over ND minus 6 in the national championship.

I agree that Bill Snyder is one hell of a coach.
-
Don't discount the possibility that Southern Cal will be a 4 loss team by the time they play Notre Dame. It's not inconceivable that UCLA could take the Trojans down.
-
Also, when talking about the best coaches in the country, Brian Kelly absolutely must be in the discussion. This is a guy who has won, and won big, at every school he's ever coached. At Grand Valley State he had a run of 33-1, including 14-0 and a Division II national championship in 2002, with an overall winning percentage of about .750. In three years at Central Michigan he built a 9-4 team from a 4-7 team and won a bowl game. He was 34-6 in four years at Cincinnati, including an unbeaten regular season of 12-0 in 2009. Now he has done what many didn't think possible; rebuilt Notre Dame without compomising the academic standards that the administration wants to keep intact. When all is said and done, I believe Brian Kelly will be mentioned in the same breath as Rockne, Leahy, Parseghian, and Holtz amoung Notre Dame's legendary great coaches.

Note that I mentioned Kelly above, but legend? Shit man, that cat has a ton of work to do before any talk of that.
If you want to talk legends, you have to give it up for DKR. In 23 years as a head coach, he never had a losing season, with his teams boasting a 167-47-5 record in his 20 years at Texas, the best record in the nation over that period (1957-1976). Dude won 2 1/2 national titles and fucking invented the the fucking wishbone, which by the way, went for 47 yards today on the one play that they broke that shit out. . That my man is a legend.

I absolutely agree; note that I didn't say Kelly IS a legend, I said that when all is said and done, he'll be mentioned with the legends.
