I bet it is true. Incredible stupidity. Although, I suspect the Marines mowing down a few dozen of the Egyptian protesters would make the political situation we find ourselves in today worse, rather than better. I'm betting that we relied on assurances from the local security forces that they would take care of any problems.

That having been said, it's my opinion that all of our embassies should be fortified outposts and anybody trying to enter by force should be repelled by whatever means necessary.....including deadly force.

Wouldn't be surprised. When we went into Haiti the marines were allowed one magazine of ammo (30 rounds). It was to prevent them from shooting people and being left unarmed.

In Lebanon the marines on guard duty were not allowed to have loaded weapons. The ammo was nearby but couldn't be in the weapon.

A personal note; Skylar you belong to a philsophy that has more to do with Hitler than any right wing group. Why do you think they were called National Socialists. They were left wingers who would not do the international thing. They believed Germany was better. You may be a beautiful woman but your mind is very ugly.

Private, youre on guard duty, unload your weapon but keep your ammo handy ... if theres a threat to security CALL TIME OUT, get your ammo, load up, and protect the place ..

You think I went quiet in the "Hitler thread" that's funny I've been posting on that thread all afternoon. Rush is an optimist. He believes America is the greatest country in the history of the world, unlike you liberals who think America is just no damn good. Rush believes ordinary people have the potential for greatness, and don't need the government to take care of them.

As it was explained to me, by a Marine who'd stood embassy guard duty overseas, the host country is considered to be responsible for the majority of the security around an embassy. They're supposed to prevent incursions, since an incursion, especially a violent incursion, such as what happened in Libya, Egypt, and in Iran back in 1979 (as I recall) are considered overt acts of war.

Note that this is precisely what Iran did in the last few days. Switzerland's embassy in Iran handles diplomatic matters between Iran and the United States, and everyone knows it. The protesters in Iran attempted to storm the Swiss embassy. Large numbers of Iranian police formed human chains to keep the protesters out.
