But I will say this much. It is my belief that if you have positive feelings about someone, unless doing so would likely cause a serious issue, those feelings should be revealed.

Yes, some will be spooked. But there are ways to avoid that by providing assurances in advance. Remember, fear is largely generated by the imagination in such cases.
