Default In Entitlement America, The Head Of A Household Of Four Making Minimum Wage Has More Disposable Income Than A Family Making $60,000 A Year

Hmmm . . . Interesting. Why would someone in that situation want to get a better job?

Do you have any facts to refute him? I'd like to hear it if you do.

So.....He assumes a Mississippi family making $60,000 would have $16,500/yr in health care costs, and so he includes $16,500 on the disposable income line under Medicaid for the minimum wage family?

Boy you're dumb.

LMAO! Thanks, Doove! We almost stepped in some more COF droppings.

Somebody is really bad with reading. Where does it say that Dove? It says that that's how much the minimum wage earner receives in Medicaid and CHIP. It's not in the $60k/yr column...just a fat zero.

Reading is fundamental...Duh-ve.

The so called "earned income credit" is little more than the redistribution of wealth and welfare at its finest.

That article is filled with a lot of very dubious assumptions at best.

But the reality is many programs designed to get people OFF assistance drive the opposite behavior because the politicians wrote bad, short sighted laws.

A very common situation: if a single mom gets a job near minimum wage her child care & transportation totals more than her income. How does that reward people for working?

Unfortunately some of the TP "big thinkers" would say it's all about motivation--let a few of those Democratic votin' welfare moms see their kids starve and that'll motivate them to get off their asses and get a $120K job.

The reality is we need to take time to THINK about the laws we write so they reward people who really do want to work. Unfortunately both parties are far too interested in inflamitory rhetoric to deamonize each other and few give a damn about the people in trouble.

A very simplistic view. The intent (though not the arithmetic) is to reward people for doing what you suggest they do--getting a job.

YOU are the one who is really bad at reading. The blogger creates his own worst case scenario to prove his ruthless point.

Here is another poster on that same blog who "gets it" a little better than you or the blogger, Can I Play Too???.

The right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (to make money) is a sovereign right. [...]

That is your opinion and it is your weighting of values. Other people include things like this amongst fundamental rights:
  • the right to health (for example the right of poor children to not die due to poor health care)
  • the right to education (so that someone born as a poor child does not stay poor due to sub-par education)
  • the right to dignity
You could sum these up as having the right to a fair chance at pursuing happiness. (Tell the ghetto kid that he has a fair chance to become a Wall Street banker.)

What you consider a 'right' might be an 'entitlement' to another person.

You are probably healthy, you are probably rich (or at least not poor) and you are probably not overly old either.

Of course most social projects are an annoyance and are unnecessary overhead to you!

And since societies are not just made up out of you, but also (in the case of the US) consist of another 300 million voting people who might have a different opinion, some sort of (inevitably imperfect) compromise gets implemented, dynamically.

IMO you need to be able to see things with other people's eyes to understand any of this. You need some basic empathy to step beyond the "this is my definition of sovereign rights" dogma.

COF, you really have something here! I'm jealous of the homeless!!!! They get large, expansive overpasses to live underneath at no cost.

They don't have to worry about doing laundry (free rain) and they have no yard to mow or care for.

They get absolutely free lighting from city lights under the bridge even if they do have to wait until night to use them.

All over town, there are almost unlimited "dumpster-diving" opportunities where good food (some not even partially eaten) abounds.

But PISS ME OFF!

I just found out that some illegal Mexicans are going to emergency rooms and using ventilators even though they aren't paying any fucking income taxes and I'm out here breathing for myself!

FUCK! That sucks.

And don't get me started on just how much I could net if I cut off a foot or a hand! Those scam artists are just plain THIEVES!

Sorry, but I don't need to read and quote somebody else's thoughts to make a rational decision on my own. I merely go on facts and make arguments from a logical standing. You, on the other hand, make knee-jerk, emotional responses to what you assume to be my position(s) without gathering any data on my perception whatsoever.

You are just mad because I mad you look stupid. Well, you really did that on your own. I just pointed out the error of your lack of comprehension skills.
