Read in a post a while back were several in the hobby had speculated about the number of visiting providers that will be in town for the event. There were also comments about how it will be a dangerous time to hobby due to increased LE.

This got me thinking ( a dangerous thing ), does LE really step up their stings during a big event that brings in many out-of-towners? I tried to search the data bases and match arrests to events, but really didn't find a pattern.

I would think, that if the powers that be were smart they would actually turn down the heat during big events. Is an out-of-towner likely to come back and pump money ( no pun intended ) into the local economy if he is arrested? Wouldn't word spread through underground channels that our city wasn't tourist friendly?

LE always steps up more during big events like the ASG. A lot of ladies are under the impression that big sporting events such as the ASG, super bowl, CWS, march madness, etc., are going to be big money makers. They're not. Its a myth. But, LE counts on those ladies who will travel and because they're not making the kind of money they had hoped for, the ladies will get desperate and make mistakes.

Word isn't going to spread that certain cities aren't tourist friendly. Sure, some people will get spooked, but people need to realize that if you're doing something illegal and you get busted, its really your own fault and not the city. It the chances one takes.

But what a sad state of affairs, that LE would expose out of towners to stings, especially on the non-low laying fruit type of situations.

This is an opportunity to show that KC is not some cowtown type of experience...unfortunately it looks like we will fail, again, at that objective.

I don't have any first hand experience with any of this, but I'd think the cities actively targeting paying tourists would be frowned upon, much in the same way that the Las Vegas police don't often if ever run stings targeting tourists out of the big strip resorts. Sure, they'll bust you if you go out of your way to bring attention to yourself and get caught, but they aren't generally spending resources to go out looking for you...

All this means, I think, is that if LE posts its normal "lonely housewife" or "soccer mom" ad and it gets not only locals but out-of-towners, that's just part of their normal activity; but if LE posts an ad actively seeking people attending the ASG, that's not expected? I think by reading this, they will post a sting ad looking for ASG attendees just because it's not what's expected. I'm sure they'll still try to get the providers to come to their hotel room posing as ASG attendees.

Wouldn't it just put a feather in someone's cap if they were to bust a sport figure or celeb or politican of any sorts?

Take a look at what happened for the super bowl. LE was VERY proactive before the SB took place and sent out warnings to ladies and gents that our type of playing won't be tolerated.

I doubt that this post will guide LE on who and when they will run their vice operations against.

But as some points were made above, I'm sure they will step up their activities during the ASG, as this city has a small town speed-trap mentality and can't see the bigger picture.

Imagine how much revenue in fines that Vegas could collect by busting every john. But it would appear that the city fathers understand how much revenue they might lose.

Just think, if KC made prostitution legal in some form, every fundamentalist church would be clamouring to bring their conventions here. I remember when the big Baptist convention was in town, it brought down bar income, but package sales went through the roof!

They should have their hands full with security issues at all the events, but i suppose we shall see.
