But it's the whole expressive and arousal thing going on that I wonder about. With women, and this happens even when I'm in an appointment, I want that touch and the realness (even if it's in limited quantity, like an hour or so) and the smell of the man.

Hmm. I'll take a stab and jump in here. They do make male versions and there is a small community of doll owners and "enthusiasts"/wannabe owners with their own web board / forums that has a faq and info on what it's like to have sex with one and how to deal with the unique challenges of having/"interacting" (if you want to call it that)/"interfacing"with a full size silicone sex doll.

Visiting their board you'll find a whole diverse group of people in terms of what they do with their dolls sexual and nonsexual.
