To Pee or not to Pee
I have a job.
I work, they pay me.
I pay my taxes to the government
& the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit.
In order to get that paycheck, in my case,
I am required to pass a random urine test
(with which I have no problem with).
What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes going
To people who don't have to pass a urine test.
So, here is my question:
Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check
Because I have to pass one to earn it for them?
Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet.
I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their BUTT----doing drugs while I work to earn their welfare..
Can you imagine how much money each state would save
If people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?
I guess we could call the program "URINE OR YOU'RE OUT"!
Something has to change in this country - AND SOON!
P.S. Just a thought, all politicians should have to pass a urine test too!....
They should also have to pass an intelligence test, a common sense test and an understanding the constitution test, as well!!!

It may be that the cost of the tests outweigh the benefits but it should be legal.

How could the courts strike it down? Everyone in the military has to take random tests and it is OK?

Rick Scott, Republican Governor of Florida, came up with this pee testing welfare recipients idea and this was the result:
From Tampa Bay Online:
TALLAHASSEE --
Since the state began testing welfare applicants for drugs in July, about 2 percent have tested positive, preliminary data shows.
Ninety-six percent proved to be drug free -- leaving the state on the hook to reimburse the cost of their tests.

Well, so much for the "Small government" republican mantra. Instead of worrying about welfare, we should worry about the people we elect first.
"Rick Scott was once the CEO of Columbia/HCA, a massive hospital chain. The federal government fined Columbia/HCA for Medicaid and Medicare fraud. That fine, a jaw-dropping 1.7 billion dollars, is the largest in American history.
But instead of going to jail, Rick Scott became the governor of Florida.
A guy scams the government and now is an elected official of the government. And in the three months since he's been in office he's doing his best to destroy the fourth largest state.
1. He rejected $2.4 billion in stimulus money to build a high-speed rail line from Tampa to Orlando.
2. He wants to slash $4 billion in spending while cutting taxes for millionaires.
3. He tried to use state funds to build golf courses in state parks while cutting education by 10 percent and corporate taxes by 5 percent.
4. He's requiring 600,000 government workers (including police officers, teachers, firefighters, judges, and retirees) to contribute 5 percent to their retirement.
5. He just lopped off $2,300 a year in teacher salary to give massive tax cuts to corporations and the wealthy.
He's also not a fan of black people. He proposed eliminating state support for two HBCUs (Historically black colleges and universities). He's shutting down a state agency that assists minority businesses, and he refuses to appoint an African American to any significant position in his administration."

Uhmm,….because they give them guns?
Court decision (An Injunction actually):
" ORLANDO, Fla. — A federal judge temporarily blocked Florida's new law that requires welfare applicants to pass a drug test before receiving benefits on Monday, saying it may violate the Constitution's ban on unreasonable searches and seizures.
Judge Mary Scriven ruled in response to a lawsuit filed on behalf of a 35-year-old Navy veteran and single father who sought the benefits while finishing his college degree, but refused to take the test. The judge said there was a good chance plaintiff Luis Lebron would succeed in his challenge to the law based on the Fourth Amendment, which protects individuals from being unfairly searched.
The drug test can reveal a host of private medical facts about the individual, Scriven wrote, adding that she found it "troubling" that the drug tests are not kept confidential like medical records. The results can also be shared with law enforcement officers and a drug abuse hotline.
"This potential interception of positive drug tests by law enforcement implicates a `far more substantial' invasion of privacy than in ordinary civil drug testing cases," said Scriven, who was appointed by President George W. Bush."

2% oooooh. So glad we caught some people smoking weed on the weekends with their buddies! They probably didn't even buy the pot lol.
But lets forget about the tax dollars that cover the food stamps they spend on soda, chips, and cake because calorie for calorie junk food is the cheapest way to live as health is a luxury item. Or the TANF money they spent buying cigarettes because they keep you from feeling hunger.
I honestly don't care what people do with their welfare money. Lots of people use their TANF to buy liquor and cigarettes. I see pot as "not quite as bad" in that department (seeing as it doesn't make you violent, addicted, or downright mean when you have a "Craving"). It's got a 5 year limit, so they'll be paying it back in taxes soon enough.

I think they should have to pass a piss test. There are a bunch of lazy fuckers that don't want to get a job. They should also have a time limit on how long they can get help for. They should have to show they are, at the very least, trying to work. If they had a job that didn't pay so well, I think that it would be ok to give them assistance. At least they would be trying. I remember this girl telling me, "Guess what? Im getting a house because the government is giving me 1000 a month for rent." She is young and healthy and is getting money because she has a kid?! WTF That's crap. I havent been able to get financial aid for school till recently, and I still dont get all of it (not complaining, just an example). Luckily I work, so I pay for my stuff along with the school aid. I have to pay for books, gas for school, materials for my classes (sometimes it is very expensive because it's fashion design, projects cost money) etc. I work my butt off to pay for all my shit because Im lucky enough to be healthy and able to work. Some people do not have that luxury. Some people are blind, or deaf, disabled, etc. Some people take advantage of the system, like that girl I gave an example of. If she were piss tested, she wouldn't be receiving help because she'd be pissing dirty. She likes to party a lot and not do anything for a living.

As far as what that girl is doing I agree, she's wrong and she's gaming the system, but maybe if you put the entirety of the welfare system into perspective by the numbers and consider the cost effectiveness of implementation, you'll find the percentages that I posted above for Florida, 2%, not worth pursuing.
The second point is this, whenever the republican party gets into trouble and they begin to lose ground, they go into culture war mode because it shifts the public away from their failing policies and claims about the President. Republicans use these issues to create a divide and demonize the poor. They know that the public is largely reactionary and will shift willing away from the issues and what they're doing. It works too, because what are we doing right now? We're talking about race, religion, birth control, abortion, welfare, and the poor.
I just pointed out that Governor Scott was fined 1.7 billion dollars for medicare fraud and I get no reaction or comment at all about that. I post a thread about the Citizens United v FEC SCOTUS ruling that is allowing billionaires and the Koch assholes to steal our elections, which is infinitely more troubling than welfare, and I get nothing. I've posted what ALEC is doing to us, which again, is the billionaires and Corporate America and how they are in control of Washington and again I get nothing.
So now were talking about making poor people piss in a motherfucking cup and we wonder why our country is screwed up, fucking amazing….

perhaps those who don't want to pee in the bottle consider it work because there could be a certain amount of "straining" involved.....
.....losers
and in the military -- if you didn't want to participate in "Golden Flow" - that definitely was your right and then I simply instituted administrative actions to allow you to become a member of the "unemployed" group. Very efficient!!
Pepper - you have to realize some people on this forum and those who create these programs have absolutely no earthly idea what life is like in the real world. They have their own mind sets based upon whatever flavor of Kool-Ade it happened to be that day and will constantly reply through copy and paste techniques instead of using common sense.
Maxx ==> great thread..
