Exclamation Select Few

I think Gingrich is really desperate and just trying to get attention with his foolish ideas, but still

. . . I like Ron Paul's idea on the subject about only sending a select few!

We don't even have a shuttle program, we are car-pooling with russia for projects, how exactly are we supposed to build a space base on the moon???

Let's borrow an extra trillion $$'s for that station on the moon.
Great idea. I'm sure China and the Middle East will finance it. Or the Fed of course.

I'll say. He thought he had 4 years to work on it but the repubs made sure there was no way he could make good on a claim like that.

He had two years of a free reign, and nothing happened.

I wouldn't quite say that "nothing happened."

He and Pelosi's congressional majority dramatically worsened our already very bad fiscal outlook by squandering hundreds of billions of dollars on political payoffs and unaffordable entitlement expansions. And he set about that task right away, calling for and then signing the American Recovery and Reinvestmant Act of 2009, a misnomer if there ever was one.

Just wondering what this has to do with the thread title?

I thought it was about Gingrich Moonraker plans?

Both fall under the broad category of "egregious waste of taxpayer money."

I thought the thread was about mocking politicians who boast about goals that they know they won't achieve ! But boast anyway because they think it makes them look/sound good.

Obama can beat that one, he'll propose making the moon colony the 58th state instead of the 51st!

So, is H3 exploitation on the moon the new "Solyndra"?

To be fair to Newt, and quite frankly, I don't know why anyone would want to be fair to Newt, he did say that what he wanted to do was to leverage current dollars spent to coordinate a private effort to plant a base on the moon. He wasn't talking about increasing spending.

I'm not going to take a position whether that is good or bad. But I do agree we would be creating more problems than we need if we let China control space. Space needs to be kept free for scientific studies, and possibly defensive weapons. I don't think posting offensive weapons in space is good for anybody, which is what China will likely do.

I'm defending Newt. Gawd, I need a shower.
