LL:

FYI - that happened to me a yr ago - to safely inform future email recipients from the hacked account, I went into AOL, changed the password, deleted all contacts and put a standard "out of the office" reply message in so that whenever it was used by whatever "Bot" that has access to it- the recipient of said Bot emails would then see in the message header a statement informing them to not open that email and to delete it....

most of those in my address book saw the header and did as it instructed, those that didn't suffered the consequences
always have a number of email addys - for social media websites, one for on-line purchases, one for work, one for personal friends and one for family.... it can be a hassle managing them all, but any smart phone will allow you to manage them all independent of each other

Lindsey: As Roothead referenced, if it is a bot on your computer it may be able to access the new yahoo account. You should run a scan on your hard drive with a good antivirus software. If you don't have a good software scan program I recommend www.avira.com.

I am sure there other people on this board a lot more IT-sophisticated than I. They may have better suggestions.

avira is good.
I use AVG because it doesn't slow my pc down as much. it's a free addition http://www.avg.com

if you are already having issues, you may want to try also running spybot search and destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html

last, as a condom for your pc, run highjack this: http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/
and it will prevent things like that from happening again.

hope that helps
