For the TL;DR rundown, this app is called Carrier IQ (CIQ). It can be installed on many devices although most notably, android. Carriers proven to contain it are Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T. Also note that while Verizon claims to not have this, they do still record everything you do and sell it off. I would highly recommend reading up on this. Nice app but I'd really only trust the version that requires root. And while you opted out, that doesn't mean they aren't still gathering the info, just not selling it.

The codes in these smartphones are capable of all kinds of things as it relates to data collection.
