Default inflation rate increases in Jan....but Trump says

January CPI went up 0.5 %. Yearly inflation rate rose.

President Trump adding tariffs to the mix. Then this below:

"President Donald Trump said Wednesday morning before the CPI data was released that interest rates should be lowered."

Lower interest rates increases inflation. He should be glad they didn't get lowered or we'd probably be headed to 4-5% inflation.

Yeah but...

“When I win, I will immediately bring prices down, starting on Day One,”

I went on groceries. It's a very simple word, groceries. Like almost, you know, who uses the word? I started using the word, the groceries. When you buy apples, when you buy bacon, when you buy eggs, they would double and triple the price over a short period of time. And I won an election based on that. We're going to bring those prices way down.

“From the day I take the oath of office, we will rapidly drive prices down and make America affordable again,”

President Trump spinning already:

"BIDEN INFLATION UP!" Trump declared.

Anything good happens, Trump is quick to own it. Anything bad happens, and......

He looks older every day. Try using the sun lamp only 4 times a week, Donald.

"Egg prices, a closely watched symbol of rising costs, soared 53% in January compared to a year ago,". "Beef prices climbed 5% and bacon prices jumped 6% in January compared to a year ago, data showed."

Lowering prices, President Trump ?

As some posters here post this phrase frequently, "We're waiting".

Interest rate changes don't always increase or decrease inflation. There are a lot of things that can change inflation rates. Interest rates are the slowest in showing a change.

Inflation is just going to keep increasing as we move forward in time and the dollar will continue to get weaker and weaker. Where gold will continue to get stronger and stronger. Gold is smashing record highs in currencies across the globe yet the American mainstream media stays silent about it.

Apparently you know little about the Federal Reserve. And the point here is President Trump is not following through on what he promised and won the election on.........lower prices.

Gold is just another commodity.

Here's the word everyone is afraid to mention:

Stagflation

Is it starting? Some indicators are there.

Trump railed against Pennies and paper straws but has yet to take action to lower prices for average Americans. Of course we all knew his claims were lies. We also know his supporters are dumb enough to believe him. But he should get to lowering prices.

Instead, he is just failing, unsurprisingly, and we should expect more high prices and likely surprisingly high inflation.

The man doesn’t have a magic wand.

“A year ago” means 365 days ago. Trump was president for 11 days before January 31, 2025. He wasn’t even president at mid January. You’re criticizing Biden, not Trump.

His tariffs will indeed cause a step up in prices of some products. But they hadn’t taken effect as of the end of January. If he manages to lower federal spending that will restrain inflation.

Fed policy and other factors generally have a lot more influence on inflation than who’s president, although Biden was an exception with the American Rescue Plan. And admittedly Trump could be too if he somehow manages to control the Fed and implement all the tariffs he’s proposed. My bet is he won’t do all that. Looking at longer term bond yields and the price of gold, the market may disagree with me though.

He said he’d lower prices day one. So a relevant question every day is:

Has he lowered prices?
