Default State of Sexual Freedom in the US

Hello :-)

Here i found an interesting discourse research about the "State of Sexual Freedom in the USA" as of 2011:

""America's discussions about sexuality tend to focus on its risks and alleged dangers rather than on its benefits, advantages or opportunities for growth, intimacy, and pleasure," asserts psychologist
Dr. Marty Klein, one of the report's contributors. "Narratives that support the restriction of sexual rights, of course, undermine fundamental American freedoms-and are the ultimate targets of the work of the Woodhull Sexual Freedom Alliance."

Well, i personally would say that this seems to be the state also in Europe or all western civilisations. :-) At one side i see the focus on the dangers good for the health aspects, we now know things we didn`t know before and i see it`s good to point out these things. The other side would be to portray the act of sex (especially casual sex) a dangerous thing per se as an aspect of supporting puritan views on how to conduct sex. That is the risk associated with only focussing on the dangers IMHO.

With all the teen pregnancies/infidelity going on here today, I am not surprised that they would focus more on the dangers than the benefits of sex. I honestly wish they would educate the public more about sexual transmitted diseases in African countries as it would help combat the issues a lot seem to have with condoms there and the aids epidemic that continues to plague the continent.

Default Here's the thing...

It is a very different world that we live in today. The sexual "revolution" that began in the late 1960's and continued into the 1980's presented very different "challenges" and the positive benefits seemed to outweight the negatives (ah, those were the days). Then, as you know, the negative aspects started getting more global recognition because health issues/concerns were spiraling out of control. Now-a-days, we are far more educated and careful than we were years ago because we need to be in order to be safe and more relaxed (undistracted by all the negatives) to be able to enjoy the sexual freedom as it exists today.

Just like it is a different world today than it was on September 10th, 2001 - the luxury of certain freedoms was severely affected - On the 11th, the day the buildings came down, the world became different.

On a personal note, certain things become different after certain life-altering events. For instance, after September 28th, I now read Nina's posts with the sexiest Austrian accent in my head.....

Sex is better without a condom and that's a fact, but weigh that against the incredible burden of having an unwanted child and/or getting a disease and to me there's no contest.

That's what I don't understand about all these unwanted pregnancies and aids because of no condoms - sure condom-free sex is great, but are you really wanting to risk the consequences???

I don't know how people are going to get real about the consequences of this. I wish I knew and could make it law!

Sex is the greatest thing in the world but really shouldn't be the doorway to unwanted children and disease. Duh. I understand that a lot of women are lonely (and sometimes direction-less?), but why opt for a disease?

There are more than just the obvious dangers of careless and carefree sex, but I won't get into all that on a hooker board lol. Anything that takes over a person's life to the point that it is all they think about, is never a good thing. Sex and moderation seem to be polar opposites with some people. If more people set proper examples, there would not be so much crap as a result.

Well, but in my opinion if people are not aware of sex at all in its positive aspect and they get the feeling its a bad and dangerous thing to do (and doing it anyways, as we all do), it will result much more in unconscious behaviour and stupidity. Its the people who don^t deal with that stuff consciously who do most often bareback or dangerous things. SO i would suggest a sexpositive approach that also points out safety thingies.

Totally agree, but too many people equate "positive things" with only a feeling, which as we know can leave us stupid. We have been education people on the good and bad benefits of sex since sex ed in high school, but people still seem to fk it up! Knowing what I know now, no way in hell I would have been so careless when I was younger. Now, I am more cautious and protected than ever before.
