This is obviously a problem that needs addressed in one way or another. A vote by the NC legislature seems appropriate if the hurricanes actually prevent people from voting. If the people themselves are unable to vote, the next best thing is letting their elected representatives do it for them.

Makes more sense to expand early voting, and how you can vote rather than letting those in power keep power by assuming they know how you will vote

That’s essentially what a representative does, if they’re actually doing their job. Most politicians are in it for the money tho, actually representing their constituents is tertiary at best. Maybe some sort of mobile voting bookmobile situation, bringing the polls to the people.

If they're actually doing their job they will take into account the minority or plurality when making decisions as well.

When it comes to the right to vote for who becomes an elected official, that should be sacrosanct and out of the hand of those already in power.

The system sucks and is completely insecure. One day only, a national holiday, have your ID ready and results posted by midnight in your particular time zone. Absentee ballots only to people with a legitimate reason for not being able to participate, every one reviewed by a bipartisan approval board. With all the technology we now have, one would think this’d be easy. Unfortunately powerful forces don’t want it easy, or secure, which is why it isn’t. It’s pretty bad when we can oversee and have confidence in an Iraqi election but not one on our own soil.

Lol. If Dems attempted this, you'd lose your mind.

Imagine if NY did this, or Va, or Pa??!! The freedom caucus is a joke with this guy - he'd prefer to take away the freedom to vote so that his individual pic - Trump would win the state. Not that he would represent his constituents at all. It would be his own preference.

It demonstrates just how partisan and party over all concerns, the GOP has become

Well what’s your suggestion then? Fuck em, they shouldn’t be given a chance to vote because their town got wiped out in a hurricane? Would you feel the same if it was Philadelphia?

If the town got wiped off the map, the should still be able to vote elsewhere.

This is where early voting opens opportunities. The mobile option is nice. Allowing them to vote in other precincts would be good.

Part of election security is election resiliency. Every precinct should have a crisis management plan with potential backups in the event of national or made-made emergencies

This is also what provisional ballots are for, too.

If you mail in your ballot, but you aren't sure it was received (or some dickwad burnt a ballot box), you can submit a provisional ballot on election day. If it turns out that your mail in ballot wasn't counted, then they are able to count your provisional.

a Simple solution, eliminate the Electoral College, then every vote will have the same weight

At very least, eliminate the "winner take all" part of it. Every state should adopt Nebraska's method of doling out electoral votes.

Eliminating the EC would basically eliminate the Republican party and would grossly disenfranchise all the rural voters in already red states and counties. They would not have fair representation of nearly 50%..... because they aren't 50% of the country.

Kill the EC, get rid of winner take all. Adopt literally any other voting method so the 2 party system dies.
But, the two parties will never do something to limit their power, so we're stuck with the EC
