So that they can erase history!
9/11 never happened, Vietnam War never happened, the pilgrims never arrived on American soil...none of it happened because history has been erased by nihilist democraps and sleepy Joe's cult! Removing a statue of Ben Franklin means that he never existed. Destroying a building means that the business never existed. What's so hard to understand?
At least now that history has been erased, we can use bamboo in our paper and hold bibles upside down in front of churches for a photo op.

It's a question that doesn't need answered because the offending parties can still be prosecuted for the crime. There's simply not an EO that calls for it to be given the priority or a call to pursue to the fullest extent which again permits more leeway in prosecutorial discretion.
It also removed the overly harsh penalties to the state and local governments in the event that a monument is vandalized, damaged or destroyed that was used as a blunt stick.

When you don't punish rioters and thugs who destroy statues, then you effectively stand with them as they seek to destroy history.
Of course one can't eliminate past events but one can try to tarnish it or erase it from the public consciousness and destroying statues is one way thugs attempt to do so
