Default Vannah Black. Escort By Day, Ghost Hunter By Night 👻

Whenever you tell someone that you are a paranormal investigator you will recieve one or a combination of these reactions:

1. People are intrigued and want to know more.

Or

2. They begin to question your mental health status and try to escape the conversation.

Or

3. People will tell you all about how they don't believe in ghosts or that you are communicating with demons.

I have loved all things scary/paranormal as far back as I can remember and got really into ghost hunting since January. I always approach everything as a skeptic and seek to rule out anything that can be debunked. I have investigated The Crescent Hotel multiple times, The Allen House in Monticello, The Hornibrook Mansion (AKA The Empress Bed & Breakfast) in Downtown LR and the MacArthur Museum of Military History. I will be updating this thread with stories and pictures of the locations mentioned above, as well as any other places I investigate.

Feel free to tell me all about your experiences with ghosts/spirits/wraiths/haints/spectres or anything of that nature. If it's creepy, I want to know about it!

I find the convergence of people’s response to be very interesting. But then again I can’t really think of any other ways to respond either.

Did someone really say you were talking to demons?

Because I find that to be pretty funny. That’s like saying I don’t believe in werewolves but weregoats are real.

When I was in 8th grade, I frequently spent the night at my best friend‘s creepy old house. One night, we got way too drunk off of his mom’s wine and I passed out on the couch. I woke up around 3ish AM to get some water and I remember how uncomfortably silent the room was. I felt a weird vibrating energy emanating in the area. The grandfather clock wasn’t tick tocking anymore, I got goosebumps and the hairs on my neck stood up, but my thirst was real so off I went to the kitchen sink. On my way back to the couch, I saw a young woman on the mezzanine wearing some old school pajamas and I dropped the glass of water and she was gone. It wasn’t his mom cause she was off on a business trip.

Next morning the clock was tick tocking again

Well I am afraid that my haunted house adventures were limited to the 8-bit variety.

I have heard that there is a place in Fayetteville called "ghost mountain"

https://web.archive.org/web/20190905...host-mountain/

For the answer to your original question, I fall in the group of "1" people.

I will start with my personal favorite: The Hornibrook Mansion.

Built in 1888 by a local saloon owner from Canada named James Hornibrook, the gorgeous Queen Anne Victorian still stands on South Louisiana Street and has been turned into a stunning bed and breakfast. He actually built it to rival the Villa Marre, which belonged to a competitor in the saloon business. It is not one of the most famous haunts in Arkansas, but it is definitely the most memorable for me.

When I arrived I was greeted by the owners and they showed me around. I asked Antonio about the hauntings and he told me that the spirits of the Hornibrooks are still very much there, but they respect them and choose not to communicate with them. They then informed me that they would be leaving to run a few errands and the only other guests besides me would not be arriving until later that night. I wasn't creeped out until I found myself completely alone in this huge, ornate mansion. After the owners left, I didn't feel alone and wandered around the grand foyer and the study. I'm not someone that claims to feel spirits or anything, but for some reason I was hesitant to make my way up the stairs.

I finally got my life together and made it up to the room I was staying in, which was James Hornibrook's bedroom. I unpacked my equiptment, turned on my voice recorder and began doing a baseline reading with my EMF meter to see if there was anything in the room giving off abnormally high levels of electromagnetic fields to rule out any false spikes. I did not get a single spike in the room. Upon evaluating the recording a couple days later I heard something while I had been doing my initial EMF reading that surprised me. I will try to find a way to upload it or you can ask me to show you when we visit but you can hear me say "your home is beautiful" and after that you can hear a "thank you." What makes this so impressive is that there was no one else in the house, nor any TV's on which completely rules out any noise contamination in the EVP. When I investigated The MacArthur Museum of Military History, I had the opportunity to share it with the author of Haunted Little Rock (Linda Howell) and she was so impressed she asked me to send it to her because of her love for that home.

I enjoyed a nice soak in the fabulous claw foot bathtub and did not recieve any further activity until the middle of the night. Around 1am I decided to break out my EMF meter while laying in bed. Just like earlier, I did not recieve any spikes at first. After about 10 minutes I started getting slightly higher readings. I asked if Mr. Hornibrook was with me and it lit up again. I got much higher readings when I told him how much I enjoyed his home and how appreciative I was for being able to stay there. He definitely still takes pride in his home. I ended up asking if he wanted to get in bed with me and it lit up all the way to red, which is as high as the device will measure. Guess you can say he still has exceptional taste in the ladies. The interaction eventually died down and I went to sleep.

The next morning after breakfast I had the pleasure of being taken up to Mr. Hornibrook's card room in the attic where he would host his card games and watch from the window for raids on his establishment.

It's safe to say that The Hornibrooks are still occupying their home and welcoming guests. ❤

Mostly people in the Pentecostal/Southern Baptist crowd. My grandfather in particular, so I don't mention anything haunted around him anymore.

Look at you using fancy acronyms!

I had to actually look up what you were talking about cause I thought EMF was something else.

Yikes! Did you ever spend the night there again or was that the last time?

That kind of reminds me of when I was younger and a friend was spending the night. We were jumping on the trampoline at 1am when she suddenly stopped and asked if my dad was up because she saw someone in a black robe standing at the back door. I thought it could have been my dad but when I asked him the next morning, he said he had not been downstairs at any point that night. What made it even creepier is that I had never told her about my dad's experiences in the house seeing a figure in a black hooded robe.

I never spent the night again, but would visit in the day time.

And I seriously got chills reading your stories... 😱

Every time I turn on the travel channel it’s about a haunted place that’s all they do now.I know Anthony Bourdain is dead, but I would like to see reruns every once in a while or his ghost.

Thank you! If you had told me years ago I would be into ghost hunting I wouldn't have believed it. It's just super addictive to me! There are so many places I want to visit with #1 on the list being spending a night in the Villisca Axe Murder House.
