President’s intelligence briefing book repeatedly cited virus threat

U.S. intelligence agencies issued warnings about the novel coronavirus in more than a dozen classified briefings prepared for President Trump in January and February, months during which he continued to play down the threat, according to current and former U.S. officials.

The repeated warnings were conveyed in issues of the President’s Daily Brief, a sensitive report that is produced before dawn each day and designed to call the president’s attention to the most significant global developments and security threats.

For weeks, the PDB — as the report is known — traced the virus’s spread around the globe, made clear that China was suppressing information about the contagion’s transmissibility and lethal toll, and raised the prospect of dire political and economic consequences.

But the alarms appear to have failed to register with the president, who routinely skips reading the PDB and has at times shown little patience for even the oral summary he takes two or three times per week, according to the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss classified material.

The advisories being relayed by U.S. spy agencies were part of a broader collection of worrisome signals that came during a period now regarded by many public health officials and other experts as a squandered opportunity to contain the outbreak.

As of Monday, more than 55,000 people in the United States had died of covid-19.

It's already been clearly established that Trump was following the advice of the experts on hand at the time which as late as February were still stating that there was not major danger to a healthy person and we shouldn't over react.

This thread continues to get either funnier or sadder or a combination of both as you look at it.

The POTUS gets briefings from lots of groups daily and now they are pinning on him that some Intelligence "chatter" may have discussed the "possible" outcomes of the Wuhan Virus. While other organizations were discussing the probabilities at the time of this not being a major issue.

Trump stuck with his direct advisors at the time.

But what's also funny in the use of the Intelligence community's assessment of the situation is that this same Intelligence community reported on all the "chatter" that gave credibility to the WMDs in Iraq discussion and was widely panned by the left at the time because the POTUS at the time took it seriously.

Now today the left claims that same community should have been taken without question since it fits a hindsight is 20/20 narrative.

The same continues to be true of any and all decisions made based on credible suggestions by the medical experts. Fauci and Birx get lionized by the left when they say something that fits their narrative, but totally ignore the fact that Trump has listened to them at almost every turn when they were also wrong.

The left continues to blame Trump for everything, then when presented with discussion of others to blame, pretend it shouldn't be about blame.

The hypocrisy is palpable.

Dr. Fauci has backtracked on his original message. He now says the U.S. has yet to receive the worst of the COVID-19 outbreak. He has even encouraged a national shutdown after telling NBC in late February that Americans should go about their normal lifestyles.


Dr. Fauci has been the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984, serving under every U.S. President since Ronald Reagan.
