The Ivy League and Fake American Ideals

The Ivy League schools all claim such wonderful things they are doing for the world. Is it true they do what they say?

From the Harvard website which is likely representative of the other snobbish and elitist Ivies...

"Based on longstanding tradition and an extensive financial aid program, Harvard is committed to making educational opportunity accessible to all..."

So they say but as the US population has grown from 1984 to present, Harvard has admitted fewer students!

The US population was approx 230 million in 1984

The US population was approx 325 million in 2019

US population growth was (325-230)/230 = about 40%

The Harvard class of 1988 (freshman 1984) had 2229 offers (most accept)

The Harvard class of 2023 (freshmen 2019) had 1950 offers (most accept)

So, while the US population has grown almost 40%, the elitist Ivy League snobs who claim to want to provide education to all actually provide less of it to all.

Why don't those greedy and selfish institutions expand commensurate with the US population and truly serve more people and create more educational opportunity, rather than less?

Are they lazy? Do they game the ranking system (to make their acceptance rate lower for instance) to make themselves appear even more superior to everyone else?

Maybe we as Americans should go on strike against that type of elitism.

Basically the students are just an annoying sideline getting in the way of them doing what they want for a lot of money and very little useful work.

That is one reason they do not expand their schools to benefit more people.

There is a limit as to how many students Harvard or any other schools can accommodate. Number of classrooms. Number of dormitory rooms. Number of professors. Size of administrative staff. There are only a handful of colleges in this country that have a 100% acceptance rate, and without trying to sound "snobbish" it is doubtful I would want to attend those schools.

Why the class of 2023 has 279 fewer students accepted is unknown to me. But I would not expect Harvard or any other college to grow at a rate that matches the total population growth of the U.S. What is a bigger concern to me is that around 30% of the students accepted at Harvard are "legacy" students.
