Default If the new FCC chairman gets his way, you can kiss ECCIE goodbye.

Ajit Pai wants to reverse the FCC’s Net Neutrality rules, which bar a service provider like ATT and Comcast to block, speed up, or slow down an internet site.

There are many ramifications of this, (unfair competition: slowing down a competitors streaming service) but if ATT and others decide this place is too “racy”.....goodbye ECCIE.

I have ATT and the main site just absolutely sucks on a cell phone in terms of speed. Posting this on the mobile site.

Has it already started? Things that make you go: hmmmmm

I have noticed slow speed on this site but thought it was a site issue not AT&T

Default I don't understand

Why would ATT and Comcast slow down eccie?

Net neutrality was intended to protect bandwith hogs, which it effectively does. My phone provider has effectively enforced the antithesis of net neutrality in their "all you can eat" plan, and it is a good thing. If I use their(note the resources ownership statement) resources wisely, they give me high speed service for all reasonable uses at a great price.

If I use their resources poorly(waste them), they give me access at very low speed.

Removing the net neutrality rules will encourage high bandwith data hogging web sites to negotiate streamlined deliver protocols that help everyone. Net neutrality allows those folks to tell my provider to f off.

Saying that net neutrality rules protect internet perversion is just stupid.

By the way, eccie is not a high bandwith user, and will never be a target. Pornub(and its multiple associated sites) is, and will be a target, but not because they are perverse.

kebab, you might want to read this to see what could happen if this passes:

http://money.cnn.com/2017/11/21/tech...ity/index.html

Do you really want the service providers to decide “what’s good for you to surf?” Instead of you deciding?

Who are the “bandwidth hogs” you’re referring to?
You and I are both guessing at what could happen if this goes down. All it takes is some holier than thou high honcho to decide this place (and Porhub) aren’t “good for the sake of decency”.

To ME. Download sites, Streaming sites and music sites are the bandwidth hogs, along with gaming related sites (like steam).

If that’s all the recision of net neutrality would do, no problem. We pay our IPSs for the service of opening up any website we want...without censorship from them. This opens it right back up if this is repealed.

Who controls the assigning of IPs? When that shit was outsourced it was the beginning of the end .... the FCC isn't going to do shit to shut down "Eccie" ... some religious loon who controls the assigning of IPs will.

As for your freedom to do as you please, that's already been outsourced to "private enterprise" ... who selects what is "appropriate" politically and culturally when you "search" and "download"! I've already seen that when doing research ... redirected away from the information I am seeking! I have to modify search terms.

I read the attached article, and like all things sourced by CNN, it is essentially factless, and without reason or logic.

Quote:

Mignon Clyburn, one of the two Democratic FCC commissioners, slammed the timing of the release as a "Pre-Holiday News Dump."
"In just two days, many of us will join friends and family in celebrating the spirit of Thanksgiving," Clyburn said in a statement to CNN Tech. "But as we learned today, the FCC majority is about to deliver a cornucopia full of rotten fruit, stale grains, and wilted flowers topped off with a plate full of burnt turkey."
End Quote

It also quotes Ron Wyden, the resident idiot Senator.

The funny thing is that I don't have a strong opinion about this, but the fact that high bandwith hogs significantly diminish the providabilty of the internet for low bandwith folks under the current system is inarguable.

I am suprised that short sighted "consumerist" like Wyden that can't understand the simplest of secondary consequences of actions haven't killed themselves walking down stairs.

How so? I still don't see how repealing this, will all of a sudden lead to censorship//

it doesn't.

it'll just cost more for faster bandwidth. this is related to Netflix's pipeline which they want cheaply of.

I think there are laws already on the books relating to unfair manipulation of bandwidth access.

WTF would like that. He's been trying to get the forum shut down for a couple of months now. Burying the evidence of his stupidity at a macro level.
