I didn't leave the GOP. The Gop deserted me and many other Americans!

Ye3p, not a member of the GOP but when it comes to the choices presented on election day, I vote for the candiadte that comes closet to my idea of where America should be headed. Unfortunately, I have seen very few if any Democrats that meet that criteria.

My feelings as well.

Hillary Clinton is not President. That's good enough.

These idiot Democrats seem to think that since we are disenchanted with the Republicans we voted into office, that we would stoop so low as to vote for a Democrat.

No. We will use the Primaries to remove these entrenched minions who think they rule by right, and replace them with candidates with true conservative principles.

There were other choices besides Trump or Clinton. To justify your vote for Trump because of Clinton is a cop out.

If you always vote the GOP candidate your not an independent. You're a GOP voter in denial.

Great! Vote them out in the primaries! I've always thought no one should be in politics so long that they can retire from it with a pension as so many do now.

Could you expand on what you feel true conservative values are, fiscally and socially, please?

These posters that are easily led to war and continually cry for tax cuts are not true conservatives. They say they are not part of the GOP but vote for whatever candidate the GOP puts forth.

This seems to relieve them of the responsibility of of their vote.

All these GOP people they voted for.....they seem to no longer like! You will have Texas Senators who did not vote for Sandy hurricane relief funds , begging for Harvey relief funds! Their voters are much the same. They hate the government .... until they need it.

I tend to be a social liberal. That being, what consenting adults do in their privacy should be between them.

But, do not expect society to bail you out when those choices lead to consequences that are detrimental.

Fiscally, I am a conservative in that I believe far too many people are now dependent on the Government for far too many things. Somebody has to pay for every benefit that the Government hands out.

This leads to the rise of the Demogogue, that person who will promise an entire group something for nothing in an effort to procure their vote. Historically, this is not a new concept. Governments have been doing it for centuries.

It seems that our modern society is being divided into two distinct groups. Those that produce, and those that take. I know that is a oversimplification. But when you are standing in the grocery line and see someone with two carts full of every item checking out with that "Lone Star Card", it just rubs you the wrong way.

I suppose right now, things are going pretty good. It will continue untill everybody becomes a "taker".

When will that be? You tell me.

That's funny that people who think what people do in their private lives should be free of government meddling are considered social liberals. To me, that's the very heart of conservatism.

There are SOME honest people who just simply need help. Maybe that is the liberal in me. There are far too many that abuse it though, I agree. How to decipher between them I don't know.

I also think government spending in other areas could be curtailed to reduce costs without affecting quality of services provided or readiness level.

I agreed with Trump when he said he wanted Boeing to make a lot of money, but not that much money. Yes, it was a bit of political grand standing as I believe Obama did the same thing but.....

This wall business is not fiscally conservative. There are less expensive ways to secure the boarder better than a physical wall could ever do.
