The politics of legalized pussy slinging
Every old conservative in Washington that has stepped out with an escort are the same ones who rail against legalizing the oldest profession here is the good old U.S of A.
I figured we could all get behind this one and remember that whether we are red, blue, conservative hard ass racist pigs or lily livered hippy tranny loving liberal bitches, we all love boobies!
What are the biggest road blocks beside the embedded puritanicalism in the US preventing that?
What would it look like as far as regulations, if it were legalized, hypothetically?
What are some valid arguments in favor of?

I can't see any other roadblock beyond religion, really. Not sure how to get around that. It's why regulating it won't work either. Putting this on our tax returns will make us targets for discrimination and violence. Decriminalization is the way to go, IMO.

Decriminalization is the way to go. It cant be legal. If it was you would not have as much right to refuse a client based on whatever reason. But i think safty would be greatly increased for the ladies I know everyone wants that.
Also if legal some how, some way, some dude will be depressed cus he ain't getting pussy, some doc is gonna prescribe a hooker. Next thing you know whorecaid is born.

Are you that partisan or blind? Wilbur Mills, democrat. Bill Clinton, democrat. Ted Kennedy, democrat. Janet Reno, democrat. The list of democrats who play but don't do anything to support goes on and on.

it's a state and local issue, not a Washington one
across the states and counties, blue or red, although we must admit most counties are red, it is against the law
illegal in all but the rural counties in Nevada, where brothels are optional, but despite the option, only eight counties have made brothels legal; still the independent actress remains (or actor in the case of wtf) flagitious.

The Federal government should not be involved.
Let each state decide. The states are doing to have to regulate it and enforce it, so let them decide. The state will set up the licensing, tax, health inspections, and compliance requirements....just like booze and cigs.
And if you want to take down another notch ... let locals decide where, when, and how they allow it to happen. Again the locals will enforce it.

Prostitution is not illegal in the united states under federal law.
States issue, not federal government issue.
At least until you cross state lines.

You can BYOP to another state.
In most instances that's like taking sand to the beach.
But you can with impunity.
A caveat: For those who flirt with "border line cases" (pardon the pun!) ... One must check sister state laws on age of consent....they vary.

Which is something i've argued for, for years.
If its legal, the govt can require you to get certified/licenced. Which means vetting out the underage ones or those with STDs.

Part of the problem is religion (the puritan streak in this country is long and wide regardless of your denomination), part is reputation (how many people want their city to be known for that house down by the river), part is taxation (do you tax by the poke, the time, the income and how do you know how much income someone really makes?), and currently it is about female empowerment (though it seems like the ultimate female empowerment the liberal chorus thinks every sex act is coerced). Same thing if you argue against a thinly veiled tax that is called a "civil rights" law. They are going to call you a racist if you oppose it even if the law has very little to do with race. Example: voter ID. We're told by the left that supporting voter ID is to oppose minorities from voting though they really can't explain how. The charge is enough to derail any arguments.
Society through the media and entertainment has combined prostitution with drugs, crime, and disease. You can't have one without the others. It would be a racist, stereotypical argument to say that because someone does X that means that they also do Y. Example; if you were a black musician in the 50s then you must be smoking weed. So the argument goes, I don't want drugs in my establishment so I won't book any black musicians. Ridiculous argument but one that was used. All hookers are into drugs, all hookers have pimps (they can argue about sex trafficking now), all hookers will come down with a STD, all hookers will rip off their clients if given the chance.
I hate to say this because someone has to be out in front. We need a multi-media blitz from Hollywood, politics, and grass roots. Someone may have to go public with the fact that they worked their way through college as an escort. Some movie or TV show with a female character that separates her profession with the way she lives her life. Some politician coming out and saying that what adults do is their own private business.
In Europe prostitution is regulated by price and health codes which means that you can be outside the law if you choose to run your own lilfe. However, the blue collar version of a prostitute (putting in the hours and taking home a check) is safer than the same over here and you won't be arrested. I read some time ago that almost half the graduates in German work in the sex industry at some point. That ranges from porno films, photos, phone sex, to prostitution.

The problem will remain even if you legalize prostitution. That is, the majority of the Country will still see both Prostitutes and their clients as less than respectable people.
I you are a Hooker, I doubt you will get elected to the president of the PTA.
