I do not think Trump was using the birther issue as a leverage against Obama. Trump would not act so foolishly nor would his advisors act so foolishly. All Trump's comments allowed Trump to win both ways.
a) He called for the release for the birth certificate of Obama. The most extreme members (and thereto a group of the base of the Republican party.. which Democrats have such extreme members that make up a group of the base of the Democrat party) felt validated and support by Trump, and they will become a loyal following of Trump. The current strategy for anyone wanting to succeed in their respective party is to build the support of the base of their party for primary election, to get elected by the church so to speak, and worry about converting the masses after the primary election for the general election. He does not need to win the support of Obama supports, Democrats, or independents right now.
b) Trump did not and never said that the birth certificate did NOT exist. Trump wins by the birthers by 'twisting Obama's arm' to hand over the birth certificate; that Trump got done what other Republican candidates could not do. Trump does not get egg on his face because he stated in interviews that he wanted Obama to put the issue to rest and never said in any interview or words HE used that Obama was not a native born citizen.
Its political positioning for the primaries. Not a serious issue that is useful in 2012, but is useful enough to garner a political base/foothold to start from in 2011.

HHHMMMM.....if 45% of registered Republicans thought Obama was not born in the United States then perhaps the release of the certificate is the single largest Civics or History lesson in one day in the history of the Republic!

Obama just got rolled by Trump who says he hopes it is real but wants to look at it.

Now the blogosphere goes to work checking every keystroke and smudge.

I guess Hillary's people can go back to work.

I finally figured it out. Been bugging me a long time now where Deacon came from. No good to ask for any proof of life as he would have stalled it anyway.

So I am playing around at lunch and using the letters in DEACON and adjusting them slightly I found the Tsutsi word CEDAON.

CEDAON in Tsutsi means "fucker of water buffalo carcasses."

Probably laughing at all of us and thinking he is getting away with it.

I second MsElena's thoughts....can we now move on to dealing with
the real questions/problems facing our nation.

As someone already mentioned, I'm sure there will be some who look for school
records or conspiracy nonsense.

To them....the heck with ya.

We have some real issues that both parties need to address.

Like did anyone hear the latest news about the 3 Billion in tax relief the Oil Companies
are rec'ing. This during an unprecedented period of billions in oil companies' profit, while gas prices continue to rise. It was reported on CNN's Situation Room program yesterday around 5pm.

And here we thought the big bad Arabs were the problem...yea right!!!
