Reflections on the past...
I found some old Omni magazines from 1979 and I was flipping through them. If you're not familiar with Omni, it was a science/science fiction based magazine published by Bob Guccione of Penthouse. I noticed a lot of ads for alcohol; vodka, tequila, jack and cigarettes; Marlboro and colorful womens cigarettes. Other ads were funny like the new six cylinder Toyota Celica Supra hatchback, known as powerful pleasure. The new line of GM front wheel drive cars for better performance, and the importance of putting a sound system in your Volkswagen Beetle. There was new technology like a personal home computer like Ben Franklin might have or a sophisticated phone answering machine that allows you to recall your messages from anywhere in the world using a VHS taped sized recall device. There was story about the movers and shakers of Silicone Valley like Hewlett. There was no Gates or Jobs in the story. Cartoons about the environment and a couple of digs at Jimmy Carter.

1979
Amazing that your thought processes, comments, and ideas today mirror 1979. I assume you were in college then too?
You have managed to stay the same and no one can ever say you were not consistent.

In the mind
John; what is it like having a prostate gland bigger than your intellect?

For the record, that ship you see in the avatar is where I was at in 1979. Anything funny to say about that catnip (I think I'll put up drapes behind his eyeballs, it will make him appear to be smarter)

Galt - mine's much bigger than yours.
Below is where I was in 1981. Of course that night it was burning out of control and 14 of my fellow crew died. So quit bragging about being in the service. It doesn't make you a hero just because you served mess.

By the way, not claiming to be a hero myself.... Those that died were the heros.
I just get tired of the "look at me I was in the service." Woo Hoo, so were a lot of us.

???? Never claimed to be a hero and definitely never claimed to work in the mess??? You must be misreading my detractors. What I have said is;
I was in the navy.
I was an electrician's mate.
People died on ships during the cold war.
People died on ships in the Gulf War.
I was injured and had a couple of close calls. I have the burn scars to prove it.
I was on a lot of fire parties; main space, flight deck, general
and I never claimed to be any sort of hero, I did my job.
Don't pay so much attention to Cheaper, Catnip, or their ilk.
Since I mentioned flight deck, this was one of my three ships.

sorry, I assumed you worked in the mess, since vets who toot their own service so much rarely have done much else.

Vice squad must know a lot about you by now...
Were those burn scars on your knees from giving hundreds of BBBJs to
the guys that worked in the galley?
