San Juan, Puerto Rico next week -- Recommendations?
Going to San Juan next Monday. Can't find out a lot about action in Puerto Rico. Anybody been there recently that can give me some ideas? I would appreciate anything you might know.

not in terms of hobby action, but....
if you're into gaming/gambling, there are plenty of casinos in the larger tourist hotels [condado area, isla verde area, even old san juan].
visit old san juan - take the round that goes north along old town towards El Morro Castle. great views of the ocean, the old town, the old cemetary, winding up at the museum area and the entrance to El Morro.
visit the two plazas just east of where Paseo de la Princessa ends and the cruise ship terminals begin. lots of local culture as well as vendors.
if you have a car, go to El Yunque, the only tropical rainforest in the US Forest System. it's about 45 mins-1 hr drive east of san juan [take PR-26 to PR-3, then go east past Rio Grande and look for the signs]. there are kioskos [food booths] along PR-3 just after you pass Parque Damaso Rivera and before you get to Luquillo beach. great food, especially the pinchos [chicken breast on a stick].
there's a nice area just east-north-east of the airport - Pinones. take PR-187 [just west of the airport] for about 5 miles or less to an area w/ a boardwalk, restaurants, and some beaches.
if you have lots of time, go west to rincon and/or mayaguez. i havent been there but have been told there are some really nice beaches. it's a good small surfing area as well.
if you're into astronomy, there is the arecibo radio telescope just past 1/2 way on the route to the western shores.
every time i've been there, i've never had any problem w/ crime. this weekend, i met a bunch of PR transplants to the US and they all said that crime was bad in PR. must be like folks saying Dallas is crime ridden. just be safe, cautious, and have a great time.
have fun! oh yeah, and if you buy virgin islands rum, you can bring 6 bottles of liquor back. no VI rum, only 2 or 4 bottles [check w/ customs after you land].

There used to be a place down by the docks called The Black Angus I think, or maybe it was Baby Doe's. Dropped in for a beer once but that's all, twenty some years ago it was $40 for the woman plus a buck for the kid who changed the sheets. There was a nudie place next door called Hawaiian Hut I think.
San J is a great place just to window shop, gorgeous women everywhere.

In the research I've done, one thing I do know is that the Black Angus was boarded up a few years ago. I think it's getting more difficult to find the "cabarets" now.

Hey, up; Yes, I got your PM and I'll thank you in advance.
Hey, Berkleigh; You wanna climb in my lap and go ... come on. I actually thought about taking a lady with me, but figured nobody would want to go just for the ticket price and meals.
Truth is, I've been to San Juan a few times, but it was either a long time ago or just for a few hours. I'll have time on this trip to knock around at night and see what kinda trouble I can get into. Ought to be fun.

Holly Hell. I did a little over a year there in the Coast Guard. That fucking place nearly killed me. The Casinos have some good action at the bars when I was there.

Well, bonus notches, Berkleigh. Yo soy un mucho handsomeo spanishita kinda hombre. But I get the hint that you might just go mad over the real Puerto Rican thing, not the bad imitation.
And, as far as when, I'm leaving Monday afternoon. Gonna be at the Condado Marriott. Somebody's gotta suffer, right?

It's a beautiful place. Spectacular beaches, beautiful women, friendly inhabitants, laid back pace, tropical breezes. With all the crime in Mexico making THAT country a No. 1 on the "Stay the Hell Out and Live!" list PR is an oasis.
