Default Column Symbols

Just a little curious.

What do the symbols mean that are in the two left columns of all the threads? Is there a descriptive list somewhere?

At what point do old threads disappear, if ever? It seems like some old ones that are not being viewed are just taking up space. Is there a way an originator of a thread could delete same without a moderato's assistance?

Hi GreyGhost:

The little symbols reveal themselves if you hold your pointer over them for a second or two. Not sure what you mean by "in the two left columns," I'll address the ones under the info about you. Here are what they stand for, although a couple of them might be visible only to a moderator:

The circle shows whether or not you are on line - dark circle means offline.
The two rectangles (one yellow, the other red) may be only for moderators - it allows a mod to assign an infraction.
The triangle and ! is the RTM button - Report to Moderator - allows you to ID a post that needs to be investigated
The small world is your IP address.

Now for the second part of your question - posts do not disappear. It's ECCIE policy. Any post that is removed is saved in a special file available to mods only. But regular threads are left to be viewed for anyone who enjoys history, I guess...LOL! Individuals can only edit a post for an hour. After that, only a mod can edit a post.

I hope that answers your questions.

Cheers!

JaG

Actually I was wondering about the symbols in the two left columns when opening the coed discussions or similar threads. Some show an envelope, a green smiley face, what looks like a note pad, a padlock. Not a biggie just curious.

Ah, those! Again, if you hover your cursor over the symbol it will tell you what it is.

The speaker means an announcement
The envelope with the lock means the thread is locked or closed - no posts allowed
White envelope - no replies
Red envelope - there are replies to the original post
Red envelope with the arrow - you have replied to this post
Thumbs up, Smiley face, etc - a symbol selected by the original poster - from a group of symbols.

I think I got them all.
