San Antonio Cop Fired for Trying to Feed Feces Sandwich to Homeless Man

A San Antonio police officer has been fired after he allegedly attempted to feed a feces sandwich to a homeless man. My San Antonio reports that San Antonio Police Department veteran Matthew Luckhurst bragged about an incident during which he allegedly placed feces between two pieces of bread and offered it to a homeless man. Luckhurst's behavior was not reported to Internal Affairs until July, according to My San Antonio, and Luckhurst was not terminated until this week.

Police Chief William McManus read a statement to the press on Friday. "This was a vile and disgusting act that violates our guiding principles of 'treating all with integrity, compassion, fairness and respect.' The fact that his fellow officers were so disgusted with his actions that they reported him to Internal Affairs demonstrates that this type of behavior will never be tolerated," the statement said. "The action of this one former officer in no way reflects the actions of all the other good men and women who respectfully serve this community."

My San Antonio also reports the department said that Luckhurst "had picked up some feces, placed it in a slice of bread, and put it in a Styrofoam container next to the unknown homeless male. The officer reported that he told Luckhurst to go back and throw it away. The officer said he saw Luckhurst go back and he assumed that Luckhurst discarded the container."

San Antonio mayor Ivy Taylor told My San Antonio that Luckhurst's "actions were a betrayal of every value we have in our community, and he is not representative of our great police force," but Luckhurst's lawyer denies the event ever took place.

"It didn't happen," attorney Ben Sifuentes told My San Antonio. "I’m confident that in arbitration, we will prevail."

The complete story here is the Officer in question saw the homeless man defecate in public. So instead of charging the man with a city ordinance he presented him with his own feces to dispose of it properly. The officers that brought the incident to the attention of Department authorities viewed it as belittling. The Officer in question will most likely not lose his job indefinitely but rather face disciplinary action for "Conduct Unbecoming Of an Officer" .
