I shake my head when many lump Latin American "revolutionary" groups in with communists and other European LWWs. They really are often very, very different.

Much of the Yucatan "Leftists" over the past years are really Mayan focused groups looking for autonomy from the oppression they see in the Mexican government towards the Mayan ethnic minority. The Mayans are a very tough group, and their history of resisting the Toltecs, Spanish, and anyone else who tried to take "their" land is in many ways comparable to the Vietnamese.

In similar ways, the Peruvian "LW"ers are a lot about the indigenous peoples struggles with the government, not so much a Eurasian socialism.

Most of these so called "Marxist/Socialist" Regimes simply evolve into Thogocracies.

even tho they are very lefty, I wasn't referring to these disparate indian groups who lost their sovereignty to the spanish invaders. some of those people deserve their own country.

it was a reference to the political difficulties the national govts of south american and to a lesser extent, central america are going thru.
