How do you define wealthy?
Isn't wealth relative?
Wealthy as opposed to who, what, when, where?

Isn't wealth relative? to whom? you, me or Bill Gates?
anyone with a net worth in excess of 5 Million dollars. that's calculated correctly of course.
by that standard i'm actually setting the bar low. on purpose. anyone worth a real net worth of 5 million or more should not need Social Security.
they still pay in obviously.

That would be my question.
I started paying into SS at an early age, I was working after school. I have never went one week of my life without paying in, including the two years I spent in the Army.
For the past 15+ years I have paid in the maximum. Every year the Government raises the cap. Periodically they raise the rate. I have always paid.
I will be 69 next year, so I will probably star drawing mine, even though I have no intention retiring, I will continue to work and pay into the system just as I always have.
My total tax bill last year was well into 6 figures. From what I gather, I am not sure that I would be denied SS, because as BigTex asked, who is considered "rich"?

i've been capped out for years myself. i also spent 4 years in the Navy, they took out then too. evey day i work for the next 10 years i'm paying for someone else's social security.

and even if you did, it would limit what you get from Social Security. i'm sure you know that.

Jackie, if you had a TAX bill is well into 6 figures, you would have to be earning several million a year. at the least. you don't a "lousy" 2,500 a month to get by.
that's about the max cap anyone regardless of income can get. Even Bill Gates won't get anymore than i will.
right now, 10 years before i could draw at 62 the earliest which would be stupid of course, i'd have to live to 135 to get back what i've already paid in.

If you had to ask the "relative" question, it is obvious that COG's "Sweet Ass" IIFFY is a fuk'n looney tunes.
As for the answer to "are you a fuk'n Idiot" question!
Not yes but HELL YES!

i have never said i liked the concept of social security. i'd be far better off giving the 150,000 i've already paid in to my stock broker. i fully expect to retire a millionaire. i'm on track for it. if i work to 68, just after my ideal of 67 i expect to have 1.5 million to live on. and that does not include 1 dime from Social Security.
if you add employer's contributions it's probably closer to 325K put in, in total.

you damn right it does. as i said i'd be far better off giving that money to my broker. he could do way more with it that the GOV. your FAVORITE entity.
today, it's part of many american's retirement. it's FDR's fault, that effete socialist Big GOV asshole. one of worst presidents EVER. and the BEST, only because he knew he was not a General or an Admiral so he mostly let the people who were trained to win a war win it, unlike Hitler, who thought being a lousy corporal in WWI somehow qualified him to be a supreme Field Marshall.
maybe this poll "should have been" do away with social security.
