The Tucson Police Department's illegal massage parlor investigation is uncovering hundreds, if not thousands of possible clients, based on call records and contact lists released by TPD on Wednesday, July 1.
TPD Chief Roberto V. said some of the names on the list are "very recognizable" in this community.
The documents reveal hundreds of names, nicknames and notes about individuals, some of whom may be suspected of paying for sexual encounters at four unlicensed massage parlors across Tucson.
Phone numbers and email addresses of subjects were redacted by TPD for privacy purposes. Some numbers included were lifted from the contact list of phones previously seized by TPD.
"But I really want to caution that a lot of these phone numbers have no involvement at all in the (criminal) investigation. They were simply in the contact list of people we were investigating as part of this."
Records show one person contacted the illegal enterprise more than 13,000 times over a four-year period.
Documentation regarding "Daisy's Delights," presumably one of the women or groups of women providing services, includes notations and nicknames about certain clientele.
We found anecdotal notes like, "Didn't want to pay full amount," "Does not keep his appointment," "Newbie," "Army dude," and "Smelly-good doctor."
Tucson police uncovered the information while targeting illegal massage parlors with their organized crime unit. In doing so, they also found suspected wrongdoing within their own department.
Two officers have since resigned instead of facing an internal investigation. At least five more are on administrative leave as the criminal case continues.
In addition, the investigation includes airmen from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Border Patrol agents, firefighters, at least one teacher and a pastor.
The documents reveal clients across southern Arizona, Oro Valley, many cities in the greater Phoenix area, Rio Rico, Nogales, Prescott Valley, Chicago and Mexican cities as far south as Hermosillo.
Seven Tucson police officers are being investigated by the Arizona Department of Public Safety for their alleged involvement with unlicensed massage parlors.
V. said criminal charges could be filed within the next few weeks.
