It's a controversial but well known theory in the behavioral science community. There is a vocal minority arguing against it, but they are the same people that discredit other controversial behavioral addictions as online gaming addiction.

The main pervasive theory being proved by brain scans (as you've given) and standard research techniques is that pornography addiction is akin to other behavioral addictions like gambling - a specific behavior with a real measurable hormonal/chemical consequences (serotonin fluctuations etc) that lead to other behavioral consequences (changes in mood, increased anxiety, development of avoidance behaviors etc.
It is often treated much the same way as other more commonly accepted behavioral addictions - a mixture of medication and therapy/counseling.

As I'm growing up, I am learning more that EVERYTHING Is controversial.
