I'd say Medical Center or Airport area, but be aware that some hotel definitions take too much location liberty. Downtown has parking and other (time and distance) issues.
Hotel pricing in SA is sometimes a vigorous exercise. So you might try priceline and hotels.com and some others to compare. And there are some secret deals, too. Sending you a pm on one or two of those.
Otherwise, check my signature for local event (Austin, too) schedules and perhaps plan to meet a group of fun folks, including some gents who some local yokels have nicknamed "sausages."
