Default Prostate Screening

Hey guys...I went to a free prostate screening today at KU. The test was simple, fast, and painless (okay...it was a little uncomfortable). Having a family history of prostate cancer, I felt it was important for early testing. You cannot put a value on piece of mind.

BTW - having now been digitally penetrated....I will NEVER ask a woman for greek. The doc's finger was bad enough....can't imagine a big ole shlong up in there.

Not looking forward to the day when I reach the age where that screening is recommended. I will do my own bit of physician screening beforehand, looking for a female doctor with small hands!

The importance of a prostrate exam can't be stressed enough. Opinions vary based on family history, etc. but in general once you hit the big 50...get examined. It is a bit uncomfortable but it doesn't hurt.

My appointment was in the morning...part of a phyiscal.....so I told my doctor that this wasn't my favorite way to start my day. He let me know it wasn't his favorite thing to do either.....LOL!!

I have known 2 people that died from prostate cancer.....needlessly. It is something that can usually be treated if found early enough.

Bottom line....don't be a victim....get checked!!

My grandfather and great uncles all had prostate cancer. This is very serious and you men do need to get checked. My father had one done and he said he joked with the doctor and told him to take his watch off.. OUCH... But jokes aside taking care of yourself and getting checked is a must do!

Yes, that exam by a physician can not only detect prostate cancer but also prostatitis or an enlarged prostate which, while not cancerous, can make things more difficult for playtime that even the little blue pill can't fix.

I found a hot female doctor in my regular doctor's office when it was time to have mine done. I can't say that I enjoyed it, but at least I saw a pretty smile before she stuck her finger up my keester!

I always try to find a doctor with small hands and make sure they remove any rings first.

As Bubba said, it is important. I'd be dead of cancer if I hadn't had my exam.

While the Prostrate Exam is very important - it is quick and although uncomfortable, is pretty much a non event. I am also at that age, and have been getting pressure from both my Dr and Insurance company that it is time for a Colonoscopy. I have been looking for excuses, but know it it probably time to get one. I just don't think I can hold still for such a procedure.

Had my first prostate exam this spring. Actually used the line from Fletch,"hey doc gonna use the whole fist....Moon river"!

I guess I am the only guy on here who goes back monthly now?

Jayhawker....go ahead and get the colonoscopy. For both of mine they put me in such a haze I don't remember any of it. It was pretty painless and now I know there are no signs of any problems. My "insides" are slick as a whistle!!!!

The worst thing bout the colonoscopy is the stuff you have to do to get ready for it. Drinking that flavored water crap.... YUCK. I had to have one after I had my gall bladder removed. they give you a nice lil drug that knocks you out or enough so you dont know whats going on. All I can remember is telling the nurse im not counting backwards cause im bout to pass out now.. and next thing i woke up and it was done and over.

Queen is right on there. The prep is the worst part, and even it has gotten less tramatic. Most of the serious part usually doesnt start until about 4 pm the day before, and that only involves taking a few little pills and drinking about a gallon of "flavored" gunk in about 2 hours. The procedure is a snap, and much less anxiety than the exam itself.

Important to know: The doc said "the problem with waiting until you have signs of a problem, it is usually too late!!"

As with any outpatient procedure schedule it for as early in the day as possible. Less wait.
