Default Economics of Sex Trade

A new Government-sponsored study of the economics of the sex trade shows that, in some cities, it is more lucrative than the drug or gun trade:

Great article!

But pimps can take in $33,000 a week in Atlanta, where the sex business brings in an estimated $290 million per year.
We can only hope stats like that will cause our resident horse farmers to move to greener pastures....

This is a very informative article that does not seem to be skewed by any particular point of view. And while they only concentrated on using people in Jail & Law Enforcement for resource material (granted much easier to find that trolling BP, ECCIE, etc.) and did not include Independent Providers (granted some claiming to be IP's are actually pimped). I'm sure Nationwide the total profit income is much higher. This is another reason why cash strapped States and other localities will eventually Legalize Prostitution just like they have Gambling. Nationally, Gambling for the most part is still technically illegal. But every State now has a Lottery, we have multi-State Lottery Games (Powerball & Mega Millions) and Native American Casinos or Racinos (Horse Racing Tracks that have had Casino facilities added to them). The decriminalization of Marijuana & possibly other illicit Drugs is currently underway. So can making Prostitution (most likely at authorized & licensed Brothel's) be too far behind?

The most surprising thing to me about the article was the chart showing illegal gun trade dollars. I am surprised that it is comparable to drugs and sex. Whereas each sale of a gun is likely more than a sex or drug purchase, it would seem that the volume of sex and drug sales , the number of people in the market for purchase of those services , and the number of purchases per customer would all lean heavily towards drugs and sex. After all, how many guns does one buy in a year , while a drug addict or a sex consumer makes many purchases per year. Hell, Jack alone , would skew the results toward the sex trade. Somebody is buying a lot of guns to offset his habit.

Except I figure those are legal sales and not counted in the stats. What's it take to buy a gun legally in Texas? A credit card? It wouldn't seem they would need to buy them illegally.

The article mentions underground sales.. they are selling more illegal guns than sex.

Here is a display of the range of rates in the cities examined in this study:

There are also several interesting charts of data in this Washington Post article:

It has got to be a hard way to make a living being a $15 hooker -- especially after the pimp takes his cut. What's left? 5 bucks?

handlers spent more on Transportation of providers ~66% than providing them with condoms less than 14%.

Another reason why prostitution should be legal. Providers should have access to safe and good healthcare. where will the money come from?? its a fucking ~300 Million industry in Atlanta alone, we will have enough money.

If they make prostitution legal, a lot of under the table will stop and people at governance don't want to stop building wealth for their great great great grand children.
