A word of caution
Amen to some of the comments here.
We need to be very careful to not mix up someone else's real world with their hobby world even in a time of crisis or grief. Look at what happened to Amber's family on her death.
Showing up at the hospital room, posting about him being in the hospital, mentioning details about his status, etc. all pose some degree of risk.

I know GneissGuy's post is very well intentioned, so none of this is meant in a hostile manner.
A thread about someone in the hospital in a city of 3 million with pneumonia is a risk? I know him well enough to say he would accept that. Should everyone go visit, of course not, but a couple of hot girls? I'll go out on a limb and accept that risk for him too.
It's been stated not to visit until his family leaves. TG has much better judgment than the average SHMB poster, again your thoughts are certainly well intentioned, thanks very much for that.
Surcher is lucky enough to have a lot of true friends and having this community's support him would mean a great deal to him.

Tricylces Abound!
I think Surcher had better hurry up and get well and return to the board, because otherwise we are going to be inundated with tricycles!
Besides, you don't want to watch the Saints kicking butt from a hospital bed, do you?

Maybe, maybe not.
Throw in info about his other medical conditions, a family member wondering who that hot woman was who was evasive when they asked how she knew him. How about a suspicious wife who's already been searching "whore boards?"
Even if this case isn't something that risks surcher, be careful about what you post in any such cases. Consider a provider or a hobbyist with a stalker who already has some info, for instance a real name for a hobbyist, but not a home address. How about a hobbyist in the hospital who recognized the provider who visited him in the hospital?
When I was on the staff at ASPD, I heard a lot of the horror stories about how someone got found out and the pain it caused. The coincidences that led to an outing were often things you'd never believe.
However, my concern wasn't necessarily about the info that's already been posted. Be careful to not post any more info that might give clues. It's amazing how you can put small clues together. I've seen it done.
I'm also cautioning people not to do something STOOPID. You'd be amazed how many people will post something like a room number.
Even something that doesn't seem all that stupid may be dangerous. For instance, if you post something about him having Carter's syndrome and gout, one of the relatives might just happen to google across the post containing those symptoms combined.

We must be careful, his family is in from out of town, and staying real close to him. They were in the lobby when I discretely visited today, and I did not make contact. I have a non-hobby link, so any difficult questions can be comfortably answered.
He is going to be exactly where he is at for the near future. Hopefully some medical difficulties can be resolved and get him out of his current location, and into a more normal room next week.
We must also understand that this might not be the case.

Wow, I'm so bummed. I spent several hours w/ surcher my last visit to Houston & had lots of laughs and good convo as well as sharing our fave thing: making out. I hope his kitty-kats are getting some lovin' cuz I'm sure they're missing him. He dotes on his as much as I do mine so I'm sure he thinks about them almost as much as he does his two-legged FURRY friends here.
Hell, he survived my hot-rodding him across town twice in the same day. He's a toughie!
I'll join you all now in sending him love and strength to pull through... *HUGS*

Oh girl,, you make me want to cry,, he is such a warm hearted gentleman and is the reason I first joined ASPD ... I have chatted with him many times but never met him,, I did not know he had feline friends. I am sure his family is taking care of everything...

I spoke with his dad today and he is told that Surcher is about 5-8% improved. He had to return to his home state for his own health reasons but Surcher's sister will be with him all weekend and an uncle next week. In other words, there will always be family members present so if you're not already known to his family, I would again urge you to exercise restraint in visiting.
He is still heavily sedated but they have promised to adjust meds Sunday so he can watch the game. Geaux Saints.

I was supposed to go visit him today but had a wee bit of car trouble. As soon as the %$#@*&^%# thing is fixed I'll go, maybe later tonight if I can get a ride from a friend, and report back.
No, before the wise cracks start I don't have a Toyota. It's a Honda with 159,000 miles on it and a close encounter of the deer kind in December. Honda - 1, Bambi - 0.
