Now this comment/apology deserves a lot of respect.

Knowing a little bit about him....I believe this.

Very well said, OoB.

This is how we should resolve miscommunications.

Best wishes to you, Fancy, and Sweet Pea.

Fancy,

Everyone needs to handle difficult times in his/her own way. When in similar circumstances, here's what worked well for me....

We had a family pet that loved us all long & well for a very long time. 'Nanny Cat', as she came to be known was the greatest thing that ever happened to our kids. Eventually, as happens to us all, it became her time. When it became clear nothing more could be done, I took a monster nap & then...stayed up all night with her in my lap...patting her as gently as she could stand & 'chatting' with her about all the good times & funny stories we had. Come time the vet opened the following morning, I carried up there & stayed with her while what needed to be done was done. Hung around for a few minutes more mourning my loss, then went on my way.

Hope all goes as you need it to for you & yours!

Bon chance!

The Pea is not doing well. I've spent as much time as possible with her, more money than I should have, done as much as I can for her. Thursday afternoon the inevitable must happen. She is a shell of the dog I knew, so it is time. I have to wait until then for someone to help me bury her. Home euthanasia is not going to work out after all, so trying to decide if I want to be a coward and have the aforementioned someone (a relative who loves her, too) take her in and bring her back, because the thought of seeing her draw her last breath is making me ill, but so's the thought of not being there for her.

This fucking sucks.

Thank you, Oob.

I've had other much-loved dogs pass away before, but it's been several years, and the Pea is very special. I'm having a really rough time dealing.

Sorry to hear that, Fancy.

If you do have to make the tough decision I would suggest being with her at the time. It's what she would want since she's probably most comfortable with you.

It'll help with closure for you, too, even if it doesn't seem that way.

Best of luck. You're in my thoughts. I know how awful it is.

Fancyinheels:

This is what to do.

Get a something that has your smell and Pea's smell on it,wrap or carry Pea in that.

Have someone drive you and Pea to the Vets--this will take alot of anxiety out of Pea

Pea will be comforted that you are with Pea

As people get older, their own mortality tends to add a dimension to the loss of the living that they have invested themselves in. Grieving is a natural thing...........although, I do get a kick out of the AD that inevitably comes in these "Fancy's dog days of summer" threads.

Very perceptive.

It'll probably be a while before I make any humorous allusions to my chihuahuas or other doggies for a while, but I will run my Creature Comforts Pet Food Drive again around the holidays in Sweet Pea's honor.
