I have a few - like 3 - that I asked to let me know, via text, when they are available. One travels from Dallas and gives me a heads up before she advertises. One doesn't work often, so let's me know when she is "on duty." The third is almost a friend. It's only ok because I asked them to do it. Otherwise it should never happen.

Yep, unless, as the OP stated, you have an established relationship with some conditions mutually agreed upon in advance. I have a handful of longtime gentlemen friends whom I maintain continuous contact with, but I am always circumspect in what I say. I usually email them about the time we normally get together and see how they are doing. I only text/call those who have made it crystal clear that they can receive such messages. Those inevitably turn out to be mature divorced/widowed fellows who have nobody else to answer to, and again, I'm still appropriate in my communications.

We providers have ADVERTISING capability on ECCIE, after all, to let lusty lads know our availability.

But yes; anyone in the hobby, client or provider, should conduct themselves with professionalism and discretion as a rule of thumb.

An easy remedy to avoiding intrusive contact as a client is to get a hobby phone and keep it off/away when you don't need to use it.

I turn mine off when I am sleeping or when I am not available to respond to work stuff.

True! I dont care how many times Ive seen someone, Im still not sending out unsolicited texts or calls. I often have gentleman that ask me why I never hit them up. Seems risky to me...you never know whos on the receiving end.

It should never happen. But it does and I've had it happen to me. That's why I use Google Voice which has a Do Not Disturb setting that solves the problem if it were to occur. Or you can just logout of GV altogether.

If I am cold texted out of the blue, I assume I am getting a discount. A big one.
On the other hand, I once had a good relationship with a provider whom I saw on a regular basis. Sometimes I contacted her, sometimes she contacted me. She always began her texts with hey how have you been kind of stuff and we would text for several minutes before she steered the conversation towards meeting up. We met up that way for three to four times a month for over a year.
