This is like standing between Scylla and Charybdis, choosing between two equally bad options, but one has to be selected or nothing good happens.

If a gent doesn't have or wish to use references, then he is expected to to part with personal info, but there definitely seems to be a backlash about that lately, too. If he wishes to supply neither, what is a provider supposed to do to assure herself that a prospective client isn't LE (which is actually the lesser of many worries) or just plain trouble on a stick? Take a risk in a profession already fought with so much danger for ladies? Providers ALSO have to be concerned about the guys who are nutso and may try to harm then, as well as those out to scam them, and since, alas, some ECCIE members fall under those headings, references ARE the most useful way to screen such fellows out.

I understand where you're coming from, WTF, and in your case you have enough online history to work out alternative screening, but in general we ladies have to do what we can and are comfortable with to guarantee our safety, always of paramount importance. Has nothing to do with violating anyone's privacy.

There has to be a workable compromise somewhere.

It is just as relevant now as two months ago.

Fancy the problem with information and information is power is that the information is gotten under the guise of security but mostly used to keep men in check from saying anything negative towards the encounter. No, dear, I'm not sticking up for anyone. I don't know the particulars about the incident you reference, haven't read Natalie's side or anyone elses, so none of my beeswax to address that. Was just commenting about this thread.

I think context has to be factored in when data is debated, and whether the item of relevance was discussed in a public forum or private, as part of screening or in a review or as pure malicious gossip with ulterior motives.

Neither provider or client should EVER play fast and loose with personal info. Trust is hard earned but easily lost by even a shadow of impropriety, deserved or not.

To use personal data as a form of blackmail is inexcusable lowlife behavior, no matter who does it or under what circumstances, and I agree; everything from such is completely tainted. The hard part is proving it.
