I have a license to own a handgun. It's called the second amendment to the US Constitution.

Does that include 33 round clips, bullets, powder, primers, etc?

How much do you pay in handgun taxes per year? How much in ammo taxes?

If you are in violation, or unqualified, you don't get your handgun. Gunners Ed in High School anyone?
Hard to conceal that Remington 870, 700 or AR clone, while you're walking into the grocery to get change for the cab driver, even if you cut off the barrel.
Bart I am not sure what your asking for here, to get all the things you have mentioned the process is the same background check that you sumbit to when purchasing a pistol, its the same process already. Are you under the impression that you can purchase a pistol without a background investigation, because if you are then your mistaken. The problem is what the law allows access too and unfortunately mental health records are protected. I would not have a problem with a one time mental fitness certification before the purchase of a firearm, but only one time and unfortuntely you can be sane 1 year and a nut ball 5 years later. I am not sure what the answer is

Probably more than you do in your weed and alocohol taxes that people like you ingest before driving their 4000 lb vehicles down a road at 60 miles an hour until the crash into some innocent grandfather on the way home from work. So maybe before you start advocating your typical liberal crap and start calling for more taxes on this weapons, you should call for higher taxes on your weapons of choice.

Bigwayne Monger is right though, because this is the tactic that will be used by the anti gun lobby and the administration which has been waiting for an incident like this so that they can pay back the special interest anti gun groups that helped them get elected. Like they do for everything that they think is wrong for you they are going to tax it out of existence, like they have tried with cigerettes and they want to do with foods that they believe are bad for you. Of course since they all drink, they never put them punitive taxes on alcohol.

Booze tax - 13.50 for a proof gallon.

*proof gallon is a gallon of liquid that is 100 proof, or 50% alcohol. The tax is adjusted, depending on the percentage of alcohol of the product.

Weed - legalize it and tax it. Prostitution - legalize it and tax it.

So far, I could care less about the laws regarding guns. Don't own one, don't ever plan on owning one. I know an individual who started buying guns a couple years ago who shouldn't be allowed to have any. Not that he's a nut, but he's careless with them. Has shot his house a half dozen times by accident. Whenever I'm over, he always wants to show off his latest purchase. Keeps them loaded and laying around his house. He may keep the criminals away, but he also keeps me away as well.

DD....Your comment "Are you under the impression that you can purchase a pistol without a background investigation, because if you are then your mistaken" is 1000% wrong.

No "official" paperwork has to be done when the transaction is between two individuals. I can't count the number of people I know that have bought a variety of pistols, rifles and shotguns from individuals without a stitch of paperwork. I bought my pistol from a policeman.....no paperwork required...completely legal!

I looked at my copy of the Constitution and I didn't see anything about a right to transportation (cars).

Of course you understand when you require a license to do anything then it is no longer a right. A right belongs to everyone as long as it does not interfere with anyone rights. Hang a license on the right and some bureaucrat can just say NO and your right is gone.

Bubba you are correct about that, I was thinking of new gun purchases, I believe he bought the gun new from a store so he would have had his background checked. This also varys between states some are more strict and require you to go to a gun dealer and pay the $25.00 and do a registration transfer on used weapons, again I was speaking of new gun purchases, because he bought the gun new.

Curious how it would have turned out if we had less gun controls and everyone there had a gun. Wonder if we would be spending thousands of dollars on a legal trial for this idot or would if he would have been shot before he could get his second victim.

I like what Ted Nuggent says take guns away from the people and you create victims.

Just the other day I was surprised to hear that here in springfield we had a major raid by the ATF because someone was acquiring automatic weapons and having them shipped to him from foriegn countries. He had managed to get acquire twenty five over the internet before getting busted.

Sorry but gun laws only create victims and take any the right to defend yourself away from law abiding citizens. Those who are willing to break laws will aquire guns illegally regardless of laws.

Sort of off topic but needs to be addressed. Please don't try to even put marijuana and alcohol on the same playing field regarding auto fatalities. You'll find more accidents related to use of prescription drugs than pot. I'm not advocating the use of marijuana while driving, only simply pointing out the absurdity of putting the two in the same category regarding auto fatalities.

Impared is impared, anything that slows the bodies ability to react and make quick decisions is impared. If you are going to tell me that weed does not slow down your reflexes or you ability to make quick decisions then you have never been high and had to decide between the cheerios and the twinkie. That said, no I am not trying to compare the two but since Monger is a weed advocate had to use language he would understand. If you thought I was saying weed is as dangerous as alcohol, then maybe you have been smoking a little too much yourself. Alcohol is a much bigger threat than weed, however, if there has been even as little as one death due to DUI of weed you have to include it. I did not mention prescription meds because they are already taxed and that was the topic of the post. So chill dude you dont have to justify you personal habits LOL.

Of course not. I would never believe that a rational gentleman like yourself could believe something so stupid.

I thought this was an interesting thing to look up. I was curious how much 'sin-tax' the govt sucks from us every year. The information wasn't as easy to find as I thought it would be but here is some stuff I found:

http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/taxfa....cfm?Docid=399
http://www.americanrifleman.org/Blog...id=1766&cid=25

In 2008, the government collected 5.7 billion in alcohol taxes.
In 2009, the government collection 110 million in firearm & ammunition taxes in the first quarter, so that comes out to roughtly 440 million for the year (I couldn't find the exact number, maybe someone else has better links?).

Edit: mentioned in the article, the firearm and ammunition taxes went up 43% from 2008, so the 2008 number was likely around 250 million or so. Of course I'm just making an educated guess based off the available info, wish I could find the real numbers...

Apparently Americans love beer more than they love weapons

A) Smoking (any drug) is bad for you.
B) Driving under the influence (of any drug) is bad.
C) My car doesn't weigh anywhere near 4000lbs. Your car is the equivalent of a fat chick.
D) I don't drive 60MPH unless the road conditions are crappy. Maybe that was fast back in your days, old man.
E) No man that lives to be old enough to be a grandfather is truly innocent. HA! Regardless, I haven't hit one yet.
F) I didn't call for more taxes on 'this weapons' [sic]. Your imagination is running wild and you're speculating.
G) You're wrong, wrong, WRONG on everything again. Just be aware of that.
