I find B&W to be more true to life than color. Color photos often distract us with color. While that's good info to know (because our eyes see in color), B&W reveals light and shadow, often allowing for a more pure expression on the face of the model. In nature shots, I often find B&W to be a more accurate representation of how that piece of land really looks than color pix. Obviously I'm talking about the sense I get from the picture, not that the picture is an actual copy of the exact scene (technically, no photos are exact copies no matter what color they are).

Fortunately, film is still a popular medium in other countries. I bought myself a Gakken kit and am thoroughly enjoying my refreshed interest in photography for my own pleasure.

That's pretty neat, I didn't know 35mm was available in a twin lens. I don't think I could ever go back to film, but I do miss the heft of a medium format camera and especially the look of a scene on those big beautiful pieces of ground glass.

I still have my Graflex 4x5 for just the special occasion. I do miss film. I read somewhere that the printed medium is dying as most people never bother to get their digital photos printed. Most end up being shared through email, Fbook, etc... and never see the light of day beyond the SD card.

I'm a big fan of black and white. One nice thing about digital is you can easily convert color to black and white (grayscale) or even four-color black-and-white for richer tones . . . or add an effect like sepia and choose how subtle to make that effect. Fun stuff to do with portraits, or other shots, in photoshop . . .

Your photos and the models are lovely. I agree, I love B and W.

I’ve had several photos in B and W, but I get some negative feedback from them. On more than on occasion I’ve been told that it isn’t revealing enough. As much as I disagree, I tend to use less B and W now.

That's interesting. I've seen several threads in which clients complain about too much re-touching which is understandable, and some preferring camera phone shots, which isn't (to me at least), but I've never read a discussion here or on the old board about B&W being inferior to color. Thank you for taking an interest, I'm lucky to have photographed these lovely ladies.

Hi SR,
I don't know about the Beatles photos, again, that was at least a dozen years ago, and I don't know the fellows name (should have asked!). He just walked in and asked everyone in the store (I was the only customer, there were a couple of guys working there) how much we thought they could be worth. In fact the used camera store we were in closed many years. ago. I just did a google search and didn't see the ones I remember. The ones I remember were taken across the folding table signing autographs, so close the tops of their heads were cropped. He also had some fantastic images of them on stage.

Lindsey is a wonderful model isn't she!? I think the thing that makes her photos shine is the fact that she enjoys posing so much, theatrical without the drama. Every shutterbug's dream!

I noticed that Chelsea had one of these pictures in her showcase in color. I put the two of them side by side below. I personally think the B&W is much sexier.
