I told some jokes to my dog for like ten minutes. Nothing. Goes to show, dogs do not have a sense of humor.

Maybe it was the delivery. My dog sits with a big smile on his face as I tell him jokes and scratch his neck and head.

I think it's because he secretly knows he's a liberal

The dog? Yeah, he could be a liberal. He sits around all day licking his ass waiting for someone else to feed him.

Ya gotta love Heinlein! As much as anyone I can think of, I credit his writing as a big part of how I ended up with this community as an aspect of my life.

Take a look at the book, "Phantoms in the Brain" by Ramachandran, 1993. It offers some insight, more into other mental phenomena like phantom limbs and foot fetishes (whoopie!) but it could be a good place to start that can guide you in further research.
