Default Female Reporters in the Locker Room

OK, this issue arose after a female reporter complained that she was harassed in the male locker room of the Jets. An NFL News report stated in part (taken from http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d...aining-program):

Quote:
The new training program also will be given to NFL rookies next year to help them deal professionally with news media and others in the workplace. The training program and related set guidelines for reporters, will be developed by the NFL in consultation with the Association for Women in Sports Media.

ASWM said in a statement that it was "pleased with the resolution of this matter" and that the NFL "performed its due diligence, completing a thorough investigation and determining what occurred."
"The reaffirmation of the locker-room access policy strongly reinforces that equal access is supported by law," the statement continued. "Since 1985, the NFL and other professional sports leagues have had league-wide policies ensuring equal access for reporters. We appreciate the NFL's renewed commitment to equality for all credentialed reporters."
Said Goodell: "Any debate over whether women reporters belong in the locker room was settled long ago, and this incident offers no occasion to reopen that antiquated discussion."
OK, here's the question: since we're talking about "equality," should male reporters be granted access to the locker rooms of female pro athletes?

[I admit I don't watch women's sports enough to know what the current practice is, but I strongly suspect men are banned from the locker room. If all reporters are banned, wouldn't that be in contravention to the policy in men's sports?]

Male reporters are allowed into female locker rooms (for example WNBA)

Charles, do you have like a one week lag on your internet news? This happened awhile ago.

Charles, you are correct that men are not afforded the same locker room access with Women's sports (sic). In the event that they are I will start "covering" the women's tennis circuit for anyone that will hire me

That said the most intelligent suggestion I've seen on this topic was to eliminate all media from locker rooms. Afterall almost all teams have media rooms and make players available to the media 10 minutes or so after the close of the game.

I think the better question to ask, although it is taboo to do so in general society, should individuals that are hired mostly because of their sexual appeal have less recourse when it comes to sexual harassment? I'm not talking about physical abuse or outright solicitation, but more playful banter or flirtation. I'm not talking about the woman that is a middle manager at GE that happens to be hot, but Hooters girls, the Falcons cheer squad, ESPN sideline reporters, etc. etc.

Food for thought.

the access is different. it is consistent with what women covering the sport have but unlike men's sports they are not seeing naked athletes wearing only a towel

Predicting that Ines will be the next feature of ANONONE's 68 part saga on "(if they provided) how much would you pay for an hour with..."

Agreed; my point was that the access was equal to what women journalists had.

BTW, while I don't have any real strong opinions about this one, the reporter in question didn't complain. Another reporter complained about the treatment of Sainz.

That's not the way it was reported in my newspaper and on Yahoo News. In both, the lady herself complained. Not having been there though, I cannot say.

If there was any other act or rule that deliniates male pro athletes in team sports where there are owners + commissioners, it is the rule that the athlete must give up all rights to privacy, modesty et. al. in the name of publicity for the team and PC.

I guarantee that male reporters are not in the WNBA locker rooms looking at the women as they come out of the shower. Equal opportunity my ass.

If any opportunities arise, I'd like to cover some of the lady volleyball players.
