Illegal immigration...your thoughts
At a time when unemployment is at record levels should this country be allowing millions of foreign workers here, legal or otherwise?
Why is this country the only one in the world which extends automatic citizenship to anyone born here? No other country permits this pernicous practice of anchor babies.
Because of their status illegal workers make conditions unbearable for citizens seeking work. Illegals drive down wages, and tolerate unsafe and unfair conditions that citizens have fought hard to obtain under the law. But the law means little to those who employ illegals.
Mexico doesn't permit any illegal immigration from its neighbors, so why should we allow it from them, much less look the other way while they encourage it.
Who benefits from all this, and who are the losers?
Mexico's social problems and population explosion are exploding every bit as much as my avatar suggests.
Should we intervene directly in Mexico, maybe with force like we did one hundred years ago when they imploded at that time?

let's see... ok, try this one.
When is the last time you saw (what YOU thought was) an "illegal" panhandling?
I haven't seen one, but I've see a bunch of lazy, neer do wells that would rather beg than work.
What job did you lose to one of the "illegals" that you were hoping to get?
This country was founded and populated by "illegals". Be careful what you wish for.
And you asked..."Why is this country the only one in the world which extends automatic citizenship to anyone born here? No other country permits this pernicous practice of anchor babies."
For one thing, it would require a change in OUR CONSTITUTION to not allow citizenship. Thanks to our forefathers, YOUR FAMILY (and mine) were granted the freedom to have litters and propagate without cause for concern. But NOW you want to change the rules... can you say "elitist"?
and you say......"Mexico's social problems and population explosion are exploding every bit as much as my avatar suggests."
Yeah.. like WE don't have any social problem, or too many people dropping litters the size of a rat pack without any consideration for the future, or for the ability to raise them. oh well, there's unemployment income, food aid, social security, free med care (for those that had NO plan to care for themselves), welfare etc etc etc..
Yeah, let's get the illegals out. We all want jobs on the farms and in the service industry..

I never hear anybody complain about Irish illegal immigrants. A lot of them come through Boston MA and Long Beach CA. And the odds are pretty good that at least some of them are bona fide IRA sympathizers.

Being illegal they shouldn't be tolerated and definately not given amnesty. If they do, then in all fairness anyone else who committed a crime needs to be given amnesty and pardons. Why should one group of criminals get special treatment over others?
The Founders didn't come here illegally. Yes, they were immigrants, but there were no laws regulating such an issue. Now there is and if we're going to have them then we need to enforce them. This whole Arizona debacle is moot. The law just enforces federal statutes already in place.
It's interesting that since our founding, issues of immigration are to be relegated to the States. Article on this subject here. http://federalistblog.us/2006/07/del...migration.html Very sickening to see the federal government growing more and more beyond the scope it was supposed to have.
It's times like this when I love being descended from native americans and can truly bitch about immigrants.

Funny thing, I know one illegal immigrant from Canada, and this person complains about the illegals from Mexico that are here in the USA. This person always shuts up when I remind of their personal status in the USA. I for one agree that they should be here legal, but as long as we keep paying the lower cost to have some of the work done that we Americans refuse to do, we will never get over this problem.

Personally I like to turn this argument inside out. What benefits do you get being a citizen? Let's see, denied basic human rights (start with self defense and property ownership and go from there), allowed to "vote" for one of two elitist chosen candidates who "represent" you (ya, right), de facto enslavement by "your" government. Why not just do away with citizenship totally, throw open the borders, shoot all the parasites and then learn to live peacefully together?

nuglet, you hit the nail on the head! Keeping it real!
Sternomancer, you are correct the so called Founders of this country didn't come here illegally but they did steal this land from the people that were here already here by every means possible, and in my book that was "morally illegal".

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. “Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
with silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
-Emma Lazarus, The New Colossus
Making immigration illegal seems profoundly un-American to me; shameful.

But isn't the real problem the financial cost of such "illegal immigrants." ?
With the new insurance law, the US taxpayer will pay for the health insurance for each and everyone of them, in addition to all the other social programs.
Also, citizenship is supposed to be granted to those born in the US, with parents who live in the US or are in here for a legitimate business.

Where did you read or hear about that? I'm speaking about the "U.S. taxpayer will pay for the health insurance for each and everyone of them" part. Just curious about your source.

Absurd argument. Man has taken land since the dawn of time. We've reached a point now where the land has been spoken for..get over it. If you're going to complain about this there is no place on earth that the argument wouldn't apply. If somebody bigger and stronger comes along and takes it from us well that's the way it is. So moving past this moot point we have a country in place and we have laws that need to be followed...they're called illegal aliens because hey..they're Illegal. It's a problem it needs to be solved but you can't just follow the laws that suit you.

I can't find the source however there was a reason why being born in the country gave you automatic citizenship. As with any law over time the original purpose is forgotten and ppl will of course twist this to suit their needs. It was most certainly not done to allow ppl to cross the border pop out a kid and claim citizenship. Doesnt' make you an elitist to question this.

Again an argument that doesn't address the point. So if you have a leaky faucet and you then get a hole in your roof letting in the rain your argument to your SO would be "fix that hole in the roof?..heh...like we don't already have a leaky faucet?" Address the issues...both of them.

Our current progressive/socialist administration is taking us even further down a very bad path. We need to get back to fiscal responsibility and personal accountability and away from entitlement mentality...it never works and it never will.

Poetmeister; If your statement(s) made any sense at all, I'd take the time to address it/them. But since you seem to just ramble, I'll pass.

No system is perfect.
All complex systems start with simple concents and try to adhere pure doctrines. Over time however, as it grows, loop holes emerge and people are never slow to jump in and take adavantage. As the system grows, the ammendment process slows down. Bigger = SLOWER and CUMBERSOME. Otherwise known as red tape.
According to me, we are approcahing the end of that cycle, and hence your staement of "socialism ". It's not socialism my friend - capitalism is still very much alive, and democracy is just about extinct. If you want to delude yourself that our voting system is one-man-one-vote, I chucke. The big corporations, banks, credit card companines, oil industry, etc have sold our nation's middle class out and continue to do so.
Q: What do you call a Chinese tourist in NY city w/ a camera ? A: Taking inventory.
Look at history. There comes a point when the rich get so rich that their heads end up on the receiving end of an axe, and the wealth gets redistributed. It's called a civic revolution.
If I'm not mistake, that how's America, as we know/percieve it, was born.

I live in a sanctuary city in Kansas, and our police can really do nothing to illegals unless in involves a murder or armed violent robbery. They regard our state like Filipe Calderon did when he thumbed his nose and mocked President George W. Bush when he bragged that he had relatives working here (illegally). He said this when he was visiting the U.S. I do not believe illegals should be harshly treated, but, they aren't here legally either. Sure, a few (even a few Irish IRA types) illegals other than Mexican or Hispanics slip through, but a lot of them don't and they are subjected to the laws of our country. I witnessed an incarceration of an Iranian ahead of me when I landed in Hawaii. I'd swear he didn't look Persian at all. Maaybe he was a terrorists, I don't know. Just for the hell of it:
If you try to sneak into Cuba, Iran, North Korea, China, Russia, Venezuela AND Mexico, you will be imprisoned after a mock trial (if you're lucky to get that) and very simply, you may never be heard from again.
Seems if an illegal is in this country, our politicians want to give them drivers licenses, social security numbers, food stamps, low rent housing or loans for homes, free medical and what ever else many us taxpayer citizens can't even qualify to receive. I spent time in a Mexican prison when I went there to try to get release for a friend who was there. I was there legally, but I got caught in their typical corruption bureaucracy. My friend and I walked out along with other escapees where I can only guess the drug lords and the guards must have allowed an escape to happen. We were lucky to be in the right place at the right time with the right people, and unlike a lot of them, we didn't stick around to get recaptured. Don't spend time in their prison system, it was the worst ten weeks of my life, though I lost my big tummy and the weight I lost lowered my cholesterol to normal 170s. I have no desire to ever return, but if these illegals want to, they could do the courageous thing like the Iranians did and try to take back their country. Sorry, they are just not willing to do the right thing. Sorry, nuglet, you're just another crusader rabbit.
