AT BB's, the BBQ is above average, but the live Blues/Jazz music is great.

I'll even toss in Johnny's BBQ in Mission and Olathe. It's not great BBQ, but its consistently good and I love the sauce.

I am addicted to the sauce at Wyandot 2 BBQ: 7125 West 75th - but I would rather not have anything else there - yes, it is THAT bad - with the possible exception of well done fries (for which they charge extra because it "burns up our oil").
Otherwise, I'm ALL for Oklahoma Joe's and Fiorella's Jack Stack. Zarda's beans may be the best, IMHO - but I don't care for other flavors there.
Kisses,
- Jackie

BB's food is ok, but they get some great bands in there. Trampled Under Foot plays every Tuesday at 7:00 PM. KC's best blues band.

OK Joes, smoke house in gladstone, Arthur Bryants at the Ameristar and if you in a hurry and want a good sandwitch and lots of fries, BIG T's. But in reality is there any bad BBQ in KC. I just returned from Dallas and I can tell you there is some bad BBQ there.

I am with you on that. If I am going to Arthur Bryants, then I want the real one. BBs has good BBQ as well and the live blues is top notch.

Jackstack and OK Joes are my favorites. Jackstacks ribs are amazing. It's not on the menu but you can still get the Martin City special, which is a rib plate made of the ribs they trim off the ends of the slabs to get them to the weight they want for a regular rib plate. Dear god it's good!
And like Jackie, I like the Wyandotes sauce. And I also concur that there is no other reason to go into that place. It's a complete pit...

Lately, I've been very into Jack Stack. But for a BBQ pit, it's almost too clean. To get that true, hole-in-the wall experience, I like Bryant's on Brooklyn. I've had Bryant's at the (ameristar?) casino, but I don't think it's as good. Gates also has a good spread and a nice feel. Just be ready to be screamed at by the cashier.

I know that turns some people off, but whatever more for me! You just have to learn what you want and how to order it, then it's a breeze. I'm at the point where I can walk in and scream what I want, then give shit to them if they have to ask me twice. For the most part, it's just a game with the cashiers. If you play along it can be fun.

After your first visit to Gates, you've essentially been 'hazed'. Then it's fun to watch the people in front of you that are newbies and the shocked looks they get when they hear the cashier shrieking at them.

Yes, Wyandot 2 BBQ does give a whole new meaning to the word "pit" . . . but that damn sauce, as Chuck at Plaza used to say "they put something illegal in this sauce, it shouldn't be this addictive by itself" . . . Dennis would sit and laugh his ass off when I'd bring a jar to the office for Chuck, knowing it wouldn't last a day. I swear he'd almost drink it . . . it does have "something" about it!
Kisses,
- Jackie

I can't believe there hasn't been a Haywards mention. I travel for 3 hours to get to KC and that is the one place I won't miss. IMHO its the best hands down. In Williams burg just an hour west is a great place called Guy and Maes also.

Ahh Haywards! Have been there in sometime. Best sausage I've ever had. They have a darn good sauce as well.
